Healogics is the largest provider of advanced wound care services in the United States, treating more than 300,000 chronic wound patients annually across over 600 sites. With an aging society, obesity and diabetes on the rise, and an uptick in surgical procedures, the number of patients with non-healing wounds that would benefit from expert care is dramatically increasing. As a result, the company is working to provide our differentiated, quality outcomes to as many patients that would benefit through our out-patient clinic partnerships.

The Biomedical Equipment Technician coordinates special projects and performs routine, complex and specialized tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, servicing, modification, troubleshooting and calibration of complex therapeutic, diagnostic or life support biomedical instrumentation by interpreting engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations using physiologic and electronic principles. The individual in this position manages warehouse to include shipping and receiving of equipment and parts while keeping tracking logs current.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:  

Improves or makes special test setups to conduct functional checks of biomedical test equipment; designs circuitry to connect various components of complete electronic systems and other complex integrated clinical systems involving specialized biomedical instrumentation in patient care environments

Oversees and improves a systematic preventive maintenance program for complex integrated diagnostic systems and related biomedical instrumentation; provides engineering and technical counsel on codes to ensure compliance with electrical safety standards; maintains preventive maintenance records and prepare reports as required

Provides technical assistance and instruction to Healogics personnel in the maintenance and operation of equipment; recommends the purchase or acquisition of biomedical instrumentation or related accessories; advises supervisory staff of equipment deficiencies and make appropriate recommendations as required

Coordinates and evaluates the work performed by service contractors to include maintenance, calibration, installation, and verification of service documentation

Meets departmental performance indicator standards on a consistent basis

Develops and implements a plan for continuing professional growth

Maintains a clean and safe workplace

Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor

Demonstrates initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment

Maintains good personal relationships with fellow workers, clinical and medical staff, and others they may contact

Performs other duties as required

Required Education, Experience and Credentials:

Associates Degree or higher in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or Hyperbaric experience preferred; plus at least two (2) years of relevant work experience in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical or hyperbaric equipment

High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; plus at least five years of relevant work experience in mechanical, electrical, or biomedical equipment; or

Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience

Valid state-issued driver’s license with a good driving record

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to coordinate projects, establish priorities, and extensive work schedules, by Healogics policies and procedures

Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation

Considerable knowledge of the safety precautions applicable to the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment

An extensive knowledge of the clinical application of medical technologies and devices

Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, clinical and medical staff, and the general public

Considerable knowledge of codes, standards, and compliance issues relating to the Clinical Engineering profession

Ability to read color codes on wiring and other electronic components

Ability to maintain neat and accurate records

Comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions

Ability to function in a sterile environment if necessary

Considerable knowledge of e-mail, database management, spreadsheet, and word processing applications

Ability to take call if necessary

Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if necessary
