We currently have opportunities available to work in the Biochemistry Department within our modern laboratory at the Princess Royal University Hospital, part of Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Princess Royal University Hospital is easily accessible by road and is only a 10-15 min drive to Orpington or Bromley South train stations, with direct trains to London Bridge and London Victoria taking 15 min. We are seeking applications from experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to join our friendly team of 15 BMS and MLA support staff, processing approximately 1.6 million tests per year. The successful candidate will hold an appropriate IBMS recognised degree and must hold the Specialist Portfolio in Biochemistry. Applications may be considered from Band 5 candidates who have a minimum of 2 years in a routine Biochemistry laboratory and who can evidence a minimum of 75% completion of the Specialist Portfolio. Main duties of the job We are seeking applications from experienced and enthusiastic HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists to join our friendly team, processing approximately 1.6 million tests per year. The main analytical platform is the Roche Cobas 8000 system which was installed in 2020, including a Roche c513 module for HbA1C analysis and a p512 preanalytics module. The department has recently undergone a successful UKAS inspection and is now fully accredited. It is expected that the successful applicant will participate in the out of hours service, after completion of the appropriate training and competencies. We would particularly welcome candidates with an interest in training and/or quality, and there is the opportunity to participate in a range of CPD activities run across the Kings College Hospital sites including case studies and online teaching sessions. The Princess Royal University Hospital Biochemistry department is an IBMS-recognised training laboratory and includes a Consultant Chemical Pathologist and Clinical Scientists. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The Core Responsibilities of the role are summarised below; To work within the Blood Sciences Laboratory at the Princess Royal University Hospital site in the Biochemistry department as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist.To work as part of a team of staff who; work together to provide a comprehensive, quality driven and appropriate diagnostic service to users through the performance and interpretation of manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations.The post holder will work as part of a team and rotate at regular intervals through all sections of the Biochemistry whilst maintaining an up to date knowledge of Biochemistry and current working practices within this discipline, including technical problem solving of analytical equipment.To participate in supervision of the work, performance monitoring and training of junior and support staff in areas in which the post holder has been assessed as competent.The post holder will maintain at all times the required high standards, quality and up to date knowledge of Biochemistry and current working practices, including technical problem solving.Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust and Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.
