Gundersen Health System is looking to add a Biomedical Technician Senior to our growing Biomedical Technology and Healthcare Technology Management team! In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the optimal performance of medical imaging equipment.

Responsibilities:

Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on a variety of imaging equipment, including MRI, PET, CT, and Portable Scanners, and more.

Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement an effective repair solution.

Stay up to date on latest imaging technology and industry best practices

What's Available:

Fulltime, 80 hours biweekly (1.0 FTE)

Schedule: Monday-Friday between 7:00 am - 4:00 pm

Primarily based in La Crosse, WI but may travel to provide support to affiliate and clinic locations

We have the ability to fill positions at various experience levels depending on candidates' existing experience
 

What You'll Need: 

Associate degree in Biomedical Electronics, Biomedical Equipment Technology, or a similar program - or - equivalent years of experience and education

4 years of experience maintaining and performing diagnostic work to medical equipment

Valid Driver's License (DL)

Familiarity with medical equipment and electronic part identification is preferred but not required.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

No professional certification required

Job Description:

The Biomedical Technician Senior is an advanced, highly skilled position that performs complex to highly complex technical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of diagnostic and therapeutic medical or imaging equipment. Additionally, the technician may provide support and maintenance of applications and servers for applications for specific medical devices. The technician works independently and is expected to have developed the necessary proficiencies and expertise to consistently ensure medical devices meet the highest standard of providing safe patient care.

Major Responsibilities:

1.    Analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs diagnostic and therapeutic medical devices utilizing established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques.
2.    Installs, calibrates, and tests new medical/imaging electronic equipment.
3.    Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on highly complex diagnostic and therapeutic medical/imaging electronic equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, applicable codes, standards, and department policy. 
4.    Conducts scheduled and unscheduled electrical and functional safely inspections on diagnostic and therapeutic medical/imaging electronic equipment.
5.    Provides operational and technical assistance on highly complex equipment in areas of expertise to medical and clinical staff when needed.
6.    Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to ensure needs are being met.
7.    Acts as a resource on more complex technical biomedical issues and mentors Biomedical Technician Associates and Biomedical Technicians to help them grow in ability, responsibility, and experience.
8.    Documents and maintains accurate records of all inspection, repairs, adjustments etc. performed on all equipment.
9.    Interprets schematics, wiring diagrams, and illustrated parts drawings of biomedical instrumentation.
10.    Reviews outcomes of preventive maintenance actions and makes recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
11.    Highly developed understanding of networking/or digital imaging technology (Dicom, HL7, servers, PCs).
12.    Modifies existing electronic devices and systems to meet the special needs of the user in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.
13.    Interacts with manufacturer representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information.
14.    Provides technical support and assistance to clinical staff in their use of highly complex and diagnostic and therapeutic devices in area of expertise.
15.    Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to equipment maintenance and use.
16.    Requests and/or orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships.
17.    Participates in both internal and external educational programs through professional associations, technical training courses, and seminar to develop maintain the required current technical aptitude.
18.    May provide support services across and outside region.
19.    Commits to continuously improving knowledge and abilities to become and remain proficient. 
20.    Functions as highly organized, efficient, and manage concurrent tasks with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.

21.    Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Associate of Applied Science Degree from a Biomedical Electronics Program/accredited institution, or

A degree or certificate of equivalence through military/technical education in biomedical/electronics/engineering, or

Equivalent years of education and experience 

DESIRED

Associate of Applied Science Degree from a Biomedical Electronics Program/accredited institution, or

Degree or certificate of equivalence through military/technical education in biomedical/ electronics/engineering

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

Four years of progressively complex (troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, design and modification) hospital-based biomedical equipment technician (BMET) experience

Proven successful experience servicing and maintaining diagnostic and therapeutic medical/imaging equipment

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office or similar product

Demonstrated proficiency knowledge of networking technology

Demonstrated proficiency/troubleshooting of application support of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment from device to server application

Applicable OEM training

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Valid Driver's License (DL)

DESIRED

Certification in CBET, CRES, etc.
