The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Biostatistician to support the 711th Human Performance Wing (HPW) located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) in Dayton, OH.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Collection/Data Support Responsibilities shall include providing operational research and basic science coordination, and general assistance in areas required to meet the stated Women’s Health and Performance (WHP) research objectives, as well as MAJCOM identified capability gaps that fall within the WHP.  Serve as the initial point of contact for users requesting data and/or data-related support services for women’s health and performance research (e.g. data analysis, data interpretation, report generation), and participate in decisions on data systems design, upgrading, and integration. Assist researchers and outside collaborators with data related issues and statistical questions.  Utilize descriptive statistics to summarize data. Write statistical analysis plans, carry out statistical analyses, and interpret and report findings.  Design and document data management processes and develop data dictionaries as necessary; establish the relationship of available data to existing datasets, map data and coding for specific data elements, maintain statistical software codes; provide training on products created as needed; perform data archive procedures within established guidelines as provided by the team lead. Import, clean, merge, manage, transform, validate, and/or analyze large multivariate datasets. Coordinate and implement procedures to collect data from multiple data sources, appraise and interpret collected data in conjunction with principal investigators as appropriate: code, identify and interpret collected data, prepare appropriate documentation, and confer with principal investigators to assist in developing research plans and to discuss the interpretation of results, as well as collaborate on the preparation of manuscripts for publication. Manage, review and extract data from existing databases for research and quality improvement, and design Word documents, spreadsheets using Excel Program, presentations using PowerPoint, and statistical programs. Coordinate development of data collection tools, questionnaires, databases and application of research techniques, assist in writing procedures manuals for data collection and coding, and review journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous studies that aid in the planning of new studies. Technical Interchange Build and maintain professional relationships with appropriate data developers and Information Technology support staff to ensure data quality, completeness, and integrity. Also support 711 HPW during collaborative efforts to increase data sharing capabilities and research partnerships with other principal stakeholders in 711 HPW and AFMS research and surveillance as well as support collaborative efforts with DoD and outside organizations’ professionals. Assist in preparing, completing, coordinating and submitting protocol related documents to both local and military Institutional Review Boards (IRB), as well as assist in the preparation of amendments to protocols and/or modifications to study design as appropriate.  Coordinate with appropriate personnel at identified research location sites; generate summary reports of findings for 711HPW/RHBAW and partner organizations as required. Interface with 711HPW/RH leadership and staff, 711 HPW Staff, as well as USAF experts and consultants in this field.    Design and accomplish reports, updates, etc. for government agencies quarterly or upon request. Manage summary of deliverables and projected timelines. Draft and/or edit research protocols, proposals, scientific abstracts, manuscripts, slide presentations, and posters as required. Attend/support meetings, as required, with government and civilian organizations, academia, and subject matter experts. Assure confidentiality of documents, communications and study data (CITI training current and follow HIPPA and IRB requirements). Assist in the technical review of proposals submitted to 711HPW/RHBAW as required. Maintain professional relationships with team lead, team members, investigators, 711 HPW, MAJCOMs, DoD, and outside organizations.  Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Possess, at minimum, a master’s level degree in statistics or biostatistics, and at least 5 years’ experience in combining, cleaning, and analyzing large multivariate datasets. 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Possess expertise in statistical modeling, statistical modeling plans, experimental design, data analysis, and management. Have knowledge and experience with common statistical methods such as = survival analysis, parametric and non-parametric methods, multiple and logistic regressions, structural equation modeling, hierarchical linear modeling, psychometric methods as well as experience applying them to real-world situations. Possess expertise in statistical analysis software such as SPSS, SAS, AMOS, R, Access, SQL Server and/or STATA.  Import, clean, merge, manage, transform, validate, and/or analyze large multivariate datasets. Possess technical writing and presentation skills, including the ability to provide interpretation of results. Have experience with MS Windows, MS Access, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Publisher, and Adobe Acrobat.  Be professional, detail oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and speak fluent English. Have the ability to thrive in a team environment yet be able to complete assigned tasks independently or with minimal guidance.  Have the ability to achieve set goals, the initiative in performing assigned tasks, the ability to follow-up complex projects with influence, and integrity, and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel in and outside of the organization.  Have a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) in place with their company based on the potential access to confidential, proprietary, and/or sensitive information.  NDA shall be provided to the Government Program Manager by start of performance. Prior Military experience. Must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).  Knowledge in electronic health records is desired Training in human subjects’ protections, regulatory affairs, and data collection is desired
