Bird/Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Supervisor
Overview This Position is Physically Located in Iraq, Balad Bird/Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) Supervisor is responsible for the reduction/elimination of potential threat posed to aircraft operations by wildlife and aviary hazards on the airfield and surrounding areas. The BASH Supervisor will manage/supervise a team of BASH technicians responsible for the control of potential BASH threats which may impact and/or halt airfield operations. The BASH Supervisor works with the Airfield Operations Management team to develop policies and procedures designed to identify potential threats culminating in the reduction and/or elimination of identified hazards/threats. The BASH Supervisor may employ both manual and remote BASH equipment to mitigate known hazard. The BASH Supervisor will develop and submit reports of services and activities to the Airfield Operations in support of internal and external stakeholder reporting requirements. The BASH Supervisor will have a strong working knowledge of all civil aviation guidelines relevant to BASH control including, but not limited to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Document, Airport Services Manual – Part 3 (Wildlife Control and Reduction). Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Assists in the reduction of the potential threat posed to aircraft operations by wildlife and aviary hazards on the airfield and surrounding areas. Works with the Airfield Operations Manager to develop policies and procedures designed to identify, reduce, and/or eliminate potential BASH threats. Directs employment of both manual and remote BASH hazard equipment. Develops and submits reports of services and activities conducted to Airfield Operations in support of internal and external stakeholder reporting requirements. Exercises strong working knowledge of all civil aviation guidelines relevant to BASH control and reduction procedures including, but not limited to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Document, Airport Services Manual – Part 3 (Wildlife Control and Reduction). Provides technical guidance and direction to technicians regarding AAS OM&R. Performs other tasks as assigned. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS High School diploma, GED, or international equivalent. 3-5 years of direct experience working as Supervisor, 5-7 years working as a Senior Technician/Specialist or Technician/Specialist in charge and/or working in support of BASH operations. Ability to pass basic physical and background checks sufficient for duty in an overseas contingency/military environment. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Prior USAF experience working as a member of BASH services team at a USAF air base. Previous experience working in BASH services/operations in the Middle East; preferably Iraq, Afghanistan, or a similar location. Working knowledge of both FAA, ICAO, and DOD policies, procedures, and regulations governing BASH operations. Working Conditions Must be capable of working in an extreme weather condition with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, dusty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well. Physical Requirements Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents. Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
