Birth Registrar Details

Essential Job Duties:
 

Maintains a working knowledge of Indiana Department of Health (IDoH) system for vital statistics, Cerner, and SMS system. Remains up-to-date and informed of IDoH policy changes and state legislation regarding birth registration, paternity affidavits, and vital statistics. Trains and assists Mother Baby and Labor Room staff with IDoH systems and other aspects of birth registration and vital statistic maintenance. Assist patients to understand and complete birth certificate worksheet information, enters date into IDoH system for the maintenance of birth records and vital statistics. Assist patients to understand and complete paternity affidavits, notarizes required documents, files appropriate paperwork. Consults with Director of Maternal Child Services (MCS) and Nursing Care Manager (NCM) of Mother Baby regarding unit activities. Organizes work assignments in a systematic and efficient manner. Notifies Information Systems and Director of MCS of equipment problems and action taken to correct problems. Use work time efficiently to complete all assigned tasks. Applies independent judgement appropriately and carries out responsibilities with minimal supervision. Collaborate with OB Data Analyst on collection and maintenance of monthly birth reports and delivery logs. Prepare additional reports as requested. Demonstrates Knowledge of hospital policy and procedures. Uses appropriate reference materials, i.e. Policy and Procedure Manual, Employee Handbook, etc. Expresses a general knowledge of the various hospital departments and their functions. Assist Director and NCMs when called upon to do so. Maintains strict confidentiality with personal information. Demonstrates appropriate conduct and positive attitude. Offers consistent professionalism and superior customer service when communication with patients and families. Displays initiative, adaptability, and dependability in relationships with co-workers and hospital staff. Demonstrates clear and concise communication (verbal, written, electronic) Assumes responsibility for personal growth and development. Seeks assistance in meeting self-learning needs through in-service, self-study, and demonstration. Shares ideas for unit growth and overall improvement of workplace, participates in initiatives toward healthy work environment. Maintains a record of infrequent absences on scheduled workdays. Complete all other duties assigned by the Director of MCS.

 

Qualifications:

High school graduate Must obtain certification as notary public within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment in this role. Proficiency in keyboarding required. Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred. Experience and knowledge of obstetric procedures, birth registration, and certification, paternity affidavit process preferred.
