Union Tank Car Company is seeking new employees at our full-service rail tank car repair shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania to assist in various departments as needed by plant production. The Company’s regulatory, engineering and commercial expertise make UTLX the preferred source of railcars and services for many of its customers. UTLX offers competitive compensation and benefits as well as an opportunity to be a part of a top-notch team where enthusiasm, expertise, and progressive thinking are valued.We are looking for qualified 2nd shift Blasters that will be responsible for removal of paint and oxidation from railcars prior to paint, removal of expended blast materials to perform tank car repairs. The rate of pay for this role will be $25.78-$26.78, plus $2.00 shift differential when assigned to 2nd shift and $1.50 shift differential when assigned to 3rd shift.Primary Job FunctionsSafely operate blast equipment on the interior and exterior of tank cars with moderate supervisionComplete blast work in an efficient manner and within assigned hoursMaintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards; comply with established safety, quality, and company policiesPerform other duties as assignedKnowledge and Skills RequiredMust possess a High School Diploma/GED; or have the ability to successfully complete an on-site basic skills assessment.Must possess job-related knowledge; for example, ability to follow work instructions on a document, ability to read a ruler and tape measure, ability to use hand tools.Must be dependable and maintain good attendance; must have reliable transportation; must be able to work scheduled work shifts including overtime.Must be able to successfully complete pre-employment drug & alcohol testing, position-specific examinations, background screening, and education verifications.Environmental and Working ConditionsModerate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation.
