A Blaster Trainee will be responsible for learning all technical skills, mathematical formulas, product utilization, and blast design processes from a Senior Blaster. The Blaster Trainee will assist in blast design, identification of type and quantity of product to be utilized, and the loading, timing, and initiation of blasts. The Trainee will be shown the proper way to conduct work site inspections along with pre and post-blast surveys. Along with safety and paperwork required on the bench, this role will receive training on reporting requirements, inventory management, and Electronic Blast Reports. \n

A Blaster Trainee will be responsible for learning each customers quarry policies and helping the Blaster in Charge ensure compliance from all members of the shot crew. Communication with both shot crew and quarry management is critical to building relationships and ensuring positive results while at a customers' site. The trainee's primary focus will be gaining the proper knowledge to execute blasting operations in a safe and efficient manner.\n

Key Responsibilities and Duties\n\nUnder direction of a Senior Blaster, will create a blast design, determine product requirements, and communicate with drilling and quarry personnel to meet the customers' needs.\nAssist in Pre-Blast safety meetings, loading, timing, and initiation of the blast.\nComplete, under supervision of a Senior Blaster, all pre- and post-blast paperwork on the bench.\nLearn proper process to complete all event paperwork to include Electronic Blast Reporting and ensure that proper inventory is available & count corresponds with IMAF and Austin Powder policy. \nComply with customers' policies\/procedures and ensure that the shot crew does the same.\nCoordinate the handling of all customer issues, blast area incidents, and\/or public concerns related to the event with appropriate APC personnel.\nCommunicate regularly with the Sales Representative and Location Manager regarding customer accounts and upcoming blast events.\nComply with APC inventory management procedures.\nOrganize and maintain all proper documentation as required by Austin Powder and all regulatory agencies.\nOther duties as assigned.\n\n

Education and Experience \n\nCurrently pursuing degree in Mining Engineering \nMeet requirements of all state and federal explosive laws and qualify as an ATF explosives possessor\nComply with a drug-free workplace\n\n

Skills and Knowledge\n\nMechanical and technical aptitude\nThe ability to learn and utilize new technology\nBasic math skills \nBasic computer literacy, including experience with Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams\n\n

Work Environment \n

Austin Powder Company's headquarters in Cleveland OH with locations throughout the United States. The Blaster Trainee work location has some flexibility depending on your location and ability to relocate.\n

Will be working in the outdoors in all weather and varying terrain. Will be exposed to dust, noise, oils, greases, and other debris. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to operate controls, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; speak and listen. Blaster trainees will periodically handle 40-60 pound product bags or boxes from company trucks.\n
