We're looking for a hard-working and highly skilled East Asia expert to join our dynamic and fast-growing research team. This is an outstanding opportunity to explore one of the most dynamic regions in the world economic and provide critical insights that will inform decisions across markets and industries. THE ROLE: The successful candidate will work with Bloomberg’s chief geoeconomics analyst and other members of the team on research projects sought at helping our clients understand how geopolitics in East Asia impact the global economy and markets. Short-turnaround projects will include quick analysis of breaking news on geopolitical events with economic implications, from the use of tariffs and sanctions to the outbreak of conflict. Longer-term projects will include taking the lead in building data sets and models that provide a more detailed way of understanding in concrete terms how geopolitics, national politics, and economics in East Asia interact, and what it means for markets and global business. We’ll measure success by the breadth and depth of our analysis on this growing area of focus for Bloomberg clients. WE’LL TRUST YOU TO: - Take the lead in building out the teams' knowledge on the intersection of geopolitics, economics, and markets in East Asia. - Develop and execute your own ideas for research projects, in addition to supporting collaborative projects. - In line with experience, represent the team at client events, on Bloomberg TV and radio, and more broadly. - From time to time, work with Bloomberg’s economic and government reporters on joint projects. YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE: - 8+ years of relevant professional experience and demonstrated expertise in the geopolitics of East Asia. - Experience working on questions at the intersection of geopolitics, economic statecraft, the economy and financial markets. - A degree in political science, international relations, regional studies, economics, or a related field. A graduate degree would be a plus. - Strong writing, communication and collaboration skills. - English proficiency. - Energy and the initiative to provide a consistent flow of original, high-quality analysis and to operate in a fast-paced, multifaceted environment. WE’D LOVE TO SEE - Experience working or living in or significant exposure to East Asia. - Strong proficiency in Chinese and/or another major regional language, with fluency in at least one of these languages preferred. - Experience working in government or an international institution on East Asia. - Experience generating content across a variety of formats, ranging from rapid turnaround responses to events to longer-term collaborative research. - Additional expertise in critical and emerging technology, political science, economics, military studies, international trade and investment, geo-economics analysis, or other regional or functional areas a plus.
