BNEF TEAM ETHOS:To succeed at BNEF we need people who can work in an independent manner and show initiative to develop their own viewpoints, yet be collaborative with colleagues. We don’t rely on the status quo, we look for innovative yet pragmatic thinking that turns big ideas into real insights and impact. Working at BNEF sometimes feels chaotic; we need teams that are both dynamic and structured to generate the unique perspectives our clients really value. Our teams are diverse, creative, focused, and fun!
BloombergNEF (BNEF) is seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to join our Natural Gas analysis team. You're one of those people who have a passion for energy markets and you want to be at the edge of change in this exciting industry. You naturally form original opinions, and you have an exceptional ability to communicate these to your audience. Your quantitative skills are strong, and you love to analyze critically complex subjects. Teamwork is important to you, and you understand how healthy debates inform solid conclusions.
ABOUT THE TEAMYou’ll be joining BloombergNEF’s global gas and LNG team. Our group spans the world, working across six continents to bring clear, data-driven insight into how energy systems are evolving. We support major players in utilities, oil & gas, finance, manufacturing, and policy by helping them make sense of the fast-changing energy landscape.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOINGYour focus will be on understanding how North America's natural gas market is changing—what's driving supply and demand, how infrastructure is shifting, and what that means for the broader energy system. You’ll dig into large datasets, build models, and use tools like Python, Excel, and the Bloomberg Terminal to extract meaningful insight.
You'll also write research reports, speak with clients, contribute to news coverage, and occasionally present at industry events. The work blends deep analysis with real-time relevance, and no two weeks are exactly the same.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORWe’re after someone with solid analytical skills—someone who’s comfortable working with numbers, writing code, and making sense of messy data. You should have at least a year of experience in a research or analytical role, and a basic grasp of how energy markets function. Familiarity with natural gas or commodities is a plus.
Strong communication skills are essential. You should be able to explain complex ideas clearly, both in writing and in person, whether you’re sharing findings with a colleague or presenting to a room full of industry experts. Attention to detail and a curious mindset are key.
KEY THINGS WE'RE LOOKING FOR: - Advanced skills in Python and experience writing efficient, well-structured code
- +1 years of working in energy, finance, or commodities
- Knowledge of North American gas pipeline systems and how to interpret pipeline nominations data
- Experience using the Bloomberg Terminal
Interested?
