DESCRIPTION
The Blow Mold Specialist is responsible for the development, optimization, and troubleshooting of blow molding processes; This role works collaboratively with manufacturing and product engineering teams to define and ensure compliance with TIFS standards for new product development while ensuring manufacturability. The specialist defines the characteristics of blow mold tooling for new programs and is directly involved in continuous improvement initiatives for blow molding processes and resin control in collaboration with plant manufacturing engineering teams.
Purpose: Define products in collaboration with application engineering, CAD, and CAE groups while ensuring compliance with TIFS manufacturing rules and standards. Actively participate or lead of the entire process of new platform development and launch, from specification and procurement to installation, debugging, and successful PPAP. Lead on the development of blow molding processes for new products and oversee the creation of TSPs (Technical Standards for Process) for all blow molding tools. Actively participate in the development of the downstream line for new products and oversee the creation of TSPs (Technical Standards for Process) for all equipment. Ensure manufacturing feasibility for new program launches and drive continuous improvement of blow molding processes, with a focus on operations and resin control.
Main function and responsibilities:
·Process Development and Optimization:
o Develop and optimize blow molding processes to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and ensure consistent production quality.
·Blow Mold Tooling:
o Design, validate, and procure blow mold equipment and tooling for new programs.
o Ensure effective error-proofing measures are in place for all blow mold tools.
·New Product Development:
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams (CAD, CAE, and application engineering) to support new product development.
o Ensure timely product launches while maintaining quoted profit margins.
o Actively participate on the different task of the APQP process.
o Lead some of the Manufacturing AQP task as it is request.
o Define manufacturing concepts for new programs.
o Develop and manage industrialization timelines for new equipment in new projects or life extensions.
o Design and/or procurement of all new equipment and tooling.
o Ensure that effective Error Proofing are on all pieces of equipment.
o Ensure that all pieces of equipment and processes are process capable.
·Quality Assurance:
o Lead and create comprehensive Blow Mold Trial Reports.
o Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for quality issues.
o Participate in DFMEA and lead PFMEA activities alongside with the plant ME.
o Maintain and improve quality levels to meet or exceed standards.
·Continuous Improvement and Cost Reduction:
o Lead initiatives to enhance process efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.
o Investigate and implement cost-saving measures.
o Ensure that effective Error Proofing are on all pieces of equipment.
·Engineering Support:
o Provide technical and analytical support to resolve production issues.
o Train and mentor production staff on blow molding processes and equipment operation.
·Compliance and Safety:
o Ensure all safety regulations (OSHA) are followed, and safety is prioritized for all plant personnel.
o Maintain compliance with environmental aspects and health controls.
·Additional Responsibilities:
o Recommend materials for product designs and assess disposal methods for parts and materials.
o Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning and development.
o Travel as needed, with extensive travel required (>= 50% of the time, seasonally variable).
Experience: 5 yrs. In the Blow Mold industry, strong knowledge of blow molding process, tooling, and materials (e.g., HDPE). 3 yrs. Developing and Launching new products. 3 yrs. Developing blow mold processes for new products. 3 yrs. Experience with AIAG Core Tools (APQP, CP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA). 2 yrs. Experience on Lean manufacturing.
Key Competencies: Strong problem-solving skills. Must have excellent communication skills in both Spanish and English. Ability to manage the design tools, equipment, and layouts. Teamwork. Leadership. Decision making.
Physical Requirements:
Travel >= 50% of the time that it could be more seasonal and not every other week.
