BOC Data Privacy Oversight

The Data Privacy team within Group Compliance supports all businesses across Barclays to develop and oversee proactive and forward-looking data privacy strategies. Responsibilities include ensuring the bank meets and exceeds data privacy legislation, supporting the management of data privacy breaches, as well as driving initiatives to prevent future incidents. Performs deep dives into higher areas of residual risk to test controls and outcomes for data subjects, alongside providing subject matter expertise on a privacy by design approach into emerging technology and core processes.  The role requires deep technical knowledge of data privacy and the ability to demonstrate accountability for personal data held by the organisation. Experience in managing personal data breaches, including containment, reporting, and implementing measures to prevent future breaches is essential. The role holder must hold a relevant qualification for Data Privacy.

To be successful as a BOC Data Privacy Oversight specialist, you should have:

Deep technical knowledge around data privacy, including understanding of privacy-enhancing technologies, risk management, and international data transfers.Familiarity with U.S. and European regulations, fair information practices, and privacy challenges.The ability to ensure compliance with privacy legislation globally and demonstrate accountability for personal data held by the organization.

Experience in managing personal data breaches, including containment, reporting, and implementing measures to prevent future breaches. Conducting education and awareness programs to improve data literacy and understanding of data privacy among colleague.

Purpose of the role

To provide data-led expert oversight and check and challenge on business and compliance matters to evidence that the organisation is operating in a compliance with Barclays legal, regulatory and ethical responsibilities. 

Accountabilities

Identification and assessment of compliance risks through thorough reviews of business activities, changes, processes, testing and systems to.Identification and investigation of potential market abuse, including but not limited to, Insider Dealing, Unlawful Disclosure, Market Manipulation or Anti-Competitive Conduct.Conduct investigation of compliance risk events or breaches. Oversight and check and challenge of corrective actions and preventative measures to avoid future occurrences.Implementation of compliance policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and ensuring that the bank’s internal policies are aligned with international standards, including jurisdictional requirements.Collaboration with 1LOD, other relevant Compliance teams and legal, and relevant risk management functions to facilitate a comprehensive approach to compliance and risk management.Identification, investigation and oversight of potential money laundering, terrorist financing or other financial crime.
