Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Boiler Operator to be based at the Springs site. The successful candidate will report to the Services Superintendent.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Boiler Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of boiler systems and associated equipment within a facility. The role involves monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting boilers to ensure they operate in compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. The Boiler Operator will also perform routine maintenance, address emergency repairs, and assist in other mechanical systems as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Boiler Operation:
Operate and monitor steam and hot water boilers to ensure optimal performance.Adjust settings to maintain proper pressure, temperature, and water levels.Record operating data such as fuel consumption, pressure, and temperatures.Start, stop, and regulate boilers, feed pumps, and related equipment.Maintenance & Inspections:
Perform regular maintenance and inspections of boilers, pumps, valves, and associated equipment.Clean, lubricate, and replace components as needed.Inspect boiler components, such as burners, gauges, and pressure relief valves, for wear and functionality.Assist in preventative maintenance routines and schedule maintenance tasks.Troubleshooting & Repairs:
Diagnose and resolve issues related to the operation of boilers, controls, and auxiliary systems.Respond to boiler malfunctions and alarms promptly and efficiently.Repair or replace faulty parts or equipment under the direction of maintenance supervisors.Safety & Compliance:
Ensure the operation of boilers complies with safety standards, codes, and environmental regulations.Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to company safety procedures and industry standards.Test safety valves, blow down systems, and other equipment for safe operation.Maintain records for boiler operations, maintenance activities, inspections, and safety checks.Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate logs of boiler operations, maintenance, and inspections.Report any unusual occurrences or issues to the supervisor or facility manager.Assist in preparing reports related to boiler performance and maintenance activities.Collaboration:
Work with other maintenance and operations staff to ensure smooth facility operations.Assist in training and mentoring junior operators or new staff members as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Certifications:
Grade 12/ High school diploma or equivalent required.Certification as a Boiler Operator (coal Fired).Experience:
Proven experience as a Boiler Operator or in a related maintenance role, with hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers.At least 4 year experience of boiler operating.Skills & Knowledge:
Strong understanding of boiler systems, steam generation, and related mechanical equipment.Familiarity with boiler safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.Basic troubleshooting and mechanical repair skills.Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to [specified weight], if applicable).Ability to work in confined spaces, heights, and adverse conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures).Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
