Bridge Engineering Professional Intermediate Level

Work alongside a team of technicians and engineers, responsible for creating computer models, performing calculations of section properties and weight take-offs, structure design calculations, etc. Perform evaluations of structures of various degrees of complexity, prepares plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates under the supervision of experienced engineers, researches code issues and works with City, State, and County officials and researches design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Project Managers. Perform detailed structural analysis via computer software and hand calculations using a variety of construction materials. Coordinate design and specifications development, including necessary subconsultants or subcontractors to satisfy specific client needs. Develop engineering designs and plans for various structure types. Skill with bridge design including Reinforced Concrete Bridges, Prestressed/Post-tensioned Concrete Bridges, Steel Plate, and Box Girder Bridges, Retaining Walls, Box Culverts, and other transportation-related structures. Perform load rating calculation of bridges per regulatory standards and industry tools & software such as AASHTO LRFD & AASHTOWare BrR. Work as a competent engineer in all aspects of structural design which includes development of structural calculations/designs, drawings, specifications, field inspections, cost estimates and reports.
Telecommuting is allowed.
TRAVEL: Occasional travel for project site visits or to coordinate with/for other offices for Jacobs or other project consultants. Generally, all travel is within the Northeast U.S.

REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field and 2 years of work experience in the job offered or related occupation.
SPECIFIC SKILLS: Expertise/ knowledge of: Structural Analysis and Design. Knowledge of software such as Staad, MERL: v2017, ProjectWise, OpenBridge Designer, SAP2000. Bridge software used for analysis such as BrR and LEAP Bridge. Code specifications such as the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification and the ICC International Building Code. AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings and the ICC International Building Code. Design requirements for steel, timber, concrete, and alternative materials is a fundamental requirement for the position. Contract Document Preparation, including drawings, specifications, and quantity/cost estimates. AutoCAD and/or Microstation. Construction Cost Estimating. Work experience on Department of Transportation (DOT) projects.
