ABOUT THE ROLE

The Broadcast Engineer builds and maintains cutting-edge platforms for one of the premier national broadcasters. This role is part of our Broadcast Engineering team to ensure our content is readily available to viewers at any time via broadcast channel playout, Video OnDemand (VOD) and other media services.

At FOX, you will have full permission to bring your best tech game to invent and build technology that delivers a high-quality viewer experience to millions across FOX networks, digital platforms, mobile applications, websites, and licensing partnerships.

Engineering & Support

Provides engineering support for all on-air broadcast systemsFollows standard operating procedures and documentation to support the operations team in a 24/7 environmentBuilds and maintains FOX’s broadcast infrastructureConducts lab, performance and system tests and prototype efforts that can continually evolve FOX’s architecture and infrastructureSupports evaluation of solutions portfolio against third party offerings

Collaboration & Partnerships

Supports Media Operations in day-to-day workflows and assist users with technical issues or concernsPartners with the Engineering and Standards & Advanced Technology teams to develop groundbreaking technology solutions for challenging business issuesCollaborates with engineering teams, operations teams, and third-party vendors to develop long term strategy, product development and implementation road maps

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Level & Role Specific Qualification

1+ years hands on experience working in a broadcast or television facilityStrong analytical, reasoning, and technical troubleshooting skills are essentialKnowledge of major broadcast systems and the vendors that supply them in areas such as routing, storage, graphics, closed-captions, transcoding, playout, etc.Solid programming knowledge and experience in at least one language such as Python, JavaScript, C#, C/C++, and/or JavaKnowledge of various technologies and tools, including AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM), as well as on-prem virtual machines, containerization, and orchestration toolsSolid understanding of full-stack and API development, along with foundational knowledge of data structures and algorithmsFamiliarity with asset management systems, file-based workflows, media acquisition, basic transcoding/encoding concepts, and NAS/SAN storage technologiesIn-depth understanding of IP, including IPv4 addressing, subnetting, routing, and network design principles. Familiar with IP protocols such as TCP, UDP, RTP, DNS, and NAT

 

General Qualifications

Ability to work effectively across different projects and teamsAbility to work various shifts as part of a 24/7 coverage teamAbility to translate business and operation requirements into technical requirements

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience in Engineering, IT, Computer Science or related Tech fieldKnowledge and experience with emerging technologies such as 4K High Dynamic Range, and HDR10+ is a plusKnowledge of industry standards such as, Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $39.75-49.76 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
