This role involves providing support and routine compliance for our substantial media and broadcast systems within a competitive, live, 24/7 news environment. As a cornerstone of our Production Engineering team, within the Broadcast and Media Technology group, you'll coordinate with various engineering teams, providing support to IT groups/helpdesk, broadcast production, technical operation personnel, and network operations aggregations.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Support broadcast infrastructure for on-air broadcast production systems.
Familiarity with studio technologies including video walls, cameras, VR set technologies, image processing systems, touch screens, control systems, and lighting
Supervise live control room production systems and subsystems
Handle infrastructure systems like routers, intercom, monitoring, KVM, audio suites, and live production-related equipment
Address, communicate, manage, and track technical issues in a live 24/7 production environment
Perform maintenance of subsystems including software and hardware updates, modifications, and replacements as warranted
Implement and maintain standards and processes including rollout and support documentation for operational support
Develop and retain process benchmarks for deployment and support documentation for operations
Collaborate on a team that works hands-on with the latest generation of production systems and technologies
Support rotation and provide remote support as needed
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or computer science preferred, or equivalent experience
5+ years of broadcast production and live television experience.
Passion for broadcast engineering/IT
Familiarity and experience with current media technologies, concepts, and emerging trends (i.e. Media over IP, Cloud Computing, etc.)
Versed in SMPTE standard for broadcast television and video production environments. For example ST 2110, ST2059, IEE1588, etc.
Strong technical ability to troubleshoot and repair broadcast equipment; routers, switchers, audio boards, signal processors, video scalers, etc.
Ability to troubleshoot audio/video signals in traditional SDI and IP ST 2110 essence flows
Understanding of studio and set technologies; video walls, cameras, VR set technologies, touch screens, lighting
Fundamental understanding of automation and NRCS workflows
Experience with Linux variants including Redhat, Centos, and Ubuntu
Understanding of technical documentation standards including AutoCAD, Visio, and Lucid Charts
Basic knowledge of AWS Infrastructures, S3/Glacier storage and cloud compute services
Extensive knowledge of standards like SMPTE for broadcast television and video environments
Solid understanding of production control automation (e.g., Ross Overdrive) and Newsroom Computer System (NRCS) workflows
Working knowledge of Window workstation and server platforms
Ability to troubleshoot and replace computer hardware components and proprietary broadcast equipment
Demonstrated working knowledge of IT/Networking theory, topology, and best practices
Demonstrated experience in the areas of analysis, organization, and escalation
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong desire to learn and cross-train in new technologies and passion to maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies
Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, working independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner
Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of a live production environment including overtime, holidays, and weekends
Ability to remove, lift, and replace equipment in racks
Ability to use manual and electric mechanical tools
