Overview:
The Student Nurse Intern position within Griffin Health is an employment opportunity that allows the student nurse to develop the valuable skills and knowledge needed for success as a professional nurse. This position supports the development of professional relationships, allows for hands-on experience that promotes critical thinking and problem solving. Offers an opportunity to increase clinical exposure, experience, and competence. Allows for assistance in developing time management skills.
The Student Nurse Intern will be part of the Planetree Care Model with emphasis on patient and family education and engagement. Responsible for assisting in the delivery of both direct and indirect high quality, patient and family centered care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse mentor/preceptor. Essential duties and job responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities:
Assists patients with activities of daily living. Assists registered nurse with all aspects of the nursing process including but not limited to assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data following the nursing management plan and monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions. Provides and/or reinforces patient instruction. Performs designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department Policy and Procedure. Assists in the overall function of the nursing unit under direction of a registered nurse. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility as a hospital employee. Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education: Student currently enrolled in good standing in an Accredited Baccalaureate Program (BSN), preparing for professional nursing practice as a registered nurse.
Experience: Student must have completed their junior year of study in a BSN program.
Certification:
AHA or American Red Cross CPR certification required.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Good interpersonal skills. Able to multi task. Demonstrated experience in nursing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
These include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, climbing ladders, standing, carrying, and lifting of heavy loads (up to 35 lb.). Work week = 36-40 hours.
