**Job Summary**
The Building Attendant I will provide routine manual work involving cleaning and housekeeping duties in University buildings, dormitories and food service units. Responsibilities include janitorial and housekeeping duties in accordance with established work routines.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
+ Performs restroom cleaning by applying cleaning chemicals appropriately and replenishing supplies.
+ Cleans, dust and disinfects areas such as rest rooms, classrooms, locker rooms, common areas and other areas.
+ Performs general custodial functions such as:
+ sweeping, mopping, dusting and vacuuming and scrubs tile work, floors, stairways, hallways, shower rooms, locker rooms and building lobbies.
+ Waxes and polishes floors.
+ Washes windows.
+ Cleans and dust furniture and other office equipment.
+ Carries out and disposes of trash and recyclable materials.
+ Operates custodial maintenance equipment including vacuums, buffers/burnishes, scrubbers, Kai-vac’s and extractors.
+ Assures energy conservation by ensuring all non-necessary lights are turned off (classrooms, offices, etc.).
+ Inspects buildings for cleanliness, needed repairs and completed work orders.
+ Makes an identification of all problems requiring a work order for correction, such as:
+ light bulb replacement, lock adjustment, carpet repair, broken glass, holes in walls, ceiling tile replacement, tripping hazards, termites, etc.
+ Identifying obvious facility deficiencies that are observed during their duties
+ Considered essential personnel.
+ Performs other duties assigned.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding, and tops of roofs of buildings.
+ Alertness and careful attention are required to avoid injury to self and to others.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ 6 months experience in cleaning buildings.
+ High school diploma or GED.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Ability to effectively execute oral and written instruction.
+ Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
+ Ability to accurately perform all phases of duties assigned.
+ Knowledge of cleaning and janitorial methods and materials.
+ Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor.
+ Knowledge of, and the ability to use, janitorial equipment and supplies.
+ Proficient in the use, care and maintenance of basic janitorial equipment including buckets, mops, automatic floor scrubbers, floor buffers, shop vacuums, and upright vacuum cleaners.
**Other Requirements**
**Working Conditions**
+ Will frequently involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements, such as dirt, excessive heat, cold, wetness, prolonged standing, walking, lifting and carrying.
+ Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements.
+ Occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases dust, dirt, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot and all weather conditions.
