Job Overview:
The primary job purpose is to deliver the “Building Control Advisor” function for the construction phase of a Project and be the focal point for the remaining aspects of “Controlled” works. Additional Tasks are: To assist with the RAF Akrotiri Airfield Monthly Inspection and the production of reports. To prepare surveys / reports / assessments/appraisals as required; to assist with the delivery of self-delivered works.
Main Duties:
To deliver the “Building Control Advisor (BCA)” function for the construction phase of Projects, in liaison with the Design Manager and the Additional Services Manager. To prepare the Construction Certificate following regular inspections of building works to include as a minimum 7 areas of inspections: excavations for foundations, concrete foundations, structure (columns, beams, slabs), dampproof course, drains & drains testing, Building completion, for the works which are included in the works programme. All site reports are to be sent through within 7 working days following site inspections. Mitie has a medium-term plan to support this engineer in obtaining the building control certification.
To be the focal point for the remaining Building Regulations requirements. These will include the communication with all relevant parties of the Building Regulation Compliance System. A UK based Building Control Advisor will issue the Design Certificate following consultation and review of designs; this process and the management system to ensure that the process is adhered to are the responsibility of the post.
To ensure that upon completion of the building works on site, that the relevant information are collated and passed to the users.
To maintain up-to-date spreadsheets for monitoring the Building Control Activity, to ensure that the process is applied uniformly across all sites (Akrotiri, Episkopi, Troodos, Dhekelia, Ayios Nikolaos, BRS Nicosia).
To assist in carrying out the monthly inspection of the Akrotiri Airfield and assist in the preparation of the detailed report to the format agreed by the Design Manager & Additional Services Manager. To ensure that actions following the report are completed and that the remedial works identified are processed for client approval and delivery by the Supply Chain. To ensure that urgent remedials are escalated to the appropriate level.
To carry out a number of Surveys/Reports/Structural Assessments/inspections/appraisals within competency, as required.
To utilise available IT systems and software, such as Maximo, for raising work orders and Statement of Needs (SON's) when is required or when is requested by the Design Manager & Additional Services Manager.
To provide technical assistance/support as required to other OPC staff supporting works activities, within the discipline and competence, as required by the Additional Services Manager/Deputy Account Director and the Design Manager.
What we are looking for:
MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering. At least 3 years experience in Civil/Structural Engineering. Familiarity with the Cyprus design and building codes. Familiarity of the Building Regulations UK Familiarity with Health and Safety legislation, construction Codes of Practice, British Standards, Eurocodes (in particular Eurocode 8-Seismic) including National Annexes.
