Building Coordinator

Overview

Genesee Lake School, a MyPath company, is a nationally recognized employee-owned provider of educational, vocational, and therapeutic residential services.  These programs support adolescents, teenagers and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, and complex trauma.  Your work will help them live their best lives, all while carving a career path for yourself as an employee owner at MyPath.

SUPERVISION:    Is responsible to and evaluated by the Building Support Coordinator. This position is responsible for the safety and security of the building.

POSITION PHILOSOPHY:     Functions as an extension of the Program Coordinator, providing overall building supervision and security.  Monitors and coordinates recreation, activities, treatment programs working with the Program Coordinator and other supervisory personnel.  Monitors and ensures that the day-to-day operations of Agency programming are according to established policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Overall Supervisory Expectations

 1.    Works scheduled hours/shifts as determined by the needs of the programs and the Program Coordinator; reports to work on time.  May be required to work overtime.

 2.    Submits an accurately completed and signed time card to the Program Coordinator.

 3.    Follows policies and procedures regarding use of benefit time and demonstrates a good attendance record.

 4.    Functions within legal, licensing, Agency, and professional standards in maintaining a therapeutic environment for the residents.

 5.    Observes, supports, and remains positive regarding all Company policies and procedures; observes expectations outlined in the Employee Handbook.

 6.    Reviews Company policies and procedures and Employee Handbook information with staff and ensures staff compliance.

 7.    Maintains confidentiality of any information related to the residents.

 8.    Maintains confidentiality of any information related to staff.

9.    Coordinates and maintains positive and supportive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and staff in other departments.

10.  Acts as a role model and sets an appropriate example for residents, staff, and the company.  Presents himself/herself in a professional manner at all times.

11.  Supports and complies with the organization’s mission statement.

12.  Reports current issues and concerns to the Program Coordinator on call.

13.  Works with the Program Supervisors to plan and build effective program teams.

14.  Successfully completes Mandt and Behavioral Management training; demonstrates appropriate techniques.

15.  Attends supervisory meetings, inservices, and other meetings as scheduled.

16.  Maintains current training and knowledge in all fire and disaster procedures.

17.  Demonstrates good decision making and problem solving.

18.  Demonstrates a proactive approach in interacting with residents and in ensuring the safety of the facility.

19.  Consistently demonstrates a mature, disciplined, and tactful approach to completing work duties.

20.  Demonstrates tact and courtesy during contact and communication with others.

21.  Maintains a valid Wisconsin driver's license and chauffeur/public passenger license as well as an excellent driving record (per insurance company guidelines) in order to utilize Agency vehicles.  Informs the Building Coordinator or Program Coordinator regarding changes in license status.

22.  Follows chain of command as appropriate.

23.  Accepts and acts appropriately upon constructive criticism and feedback.

Fiscal Responsibilities

 1.    Ensures that there is a functional balance of petty cash available for emergencies or program transportation purposes.       

 2.    Distributes, records, and monitors petty cash.

 3.    Ensures that resident money/valuables are safe prior to and upon return from home visits.

 4.    Works with Program Coordinator to purchase supplies and materials.

 5.    Works with Program Coordinator to purchase birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, and reinforcers.

 6.    Ensures operation of the programs within budget guidelines.

 7.    Ensures payroll budget of each program is maintained within budget guidelines.                      

Staff Coordination

 1.    Reviews daily coverage and program assignments of direct care staff per shift.   Re‑assigns to meet facility needs and to accommodate crisis situations.

 2.    Designates individuals to function as priority staff to assist with crisis intervention and/or supervise protective supervision needs.

 3.    Accepts sick call‑ins and assists with meeting coverage needs for the next shift.

 4.    Works with Program Supervisors to ensure proper program coverage.

 5.    Monitors staff compliance with Employee Handbook information and departmental expectations working with the Program Supervisors to ensure documentation and compliance.

 6.    Monitors certification process for direct care staff for time‑out, screen time-out, and medical certification.

 7.    Acts as direct supervisor of the program’s direct care staff in the absence of the Program Supervisor.

 8.    Ensures staff do not engage in inappropriate behavior or “horse play” which may compromise the safety and/or well being of residents and/or co-workers.

Emergencies

 1.    Coordinates staff and residents in the event of emergency conditions (environmental, medical and/or behavioral).

 2.    Coordinates search with police in the event of resident elopement.

 3.    Coordinates emergency assistance to the classrooms.

Vehicles and Transportation

 1.    Authorizes and monitors proper use of vehicles.

 2.    Trains staff in vehicle usage; ensures driving test is completed by each staff member who is required to drive.

 3.    Assists with coordination of transportation services for residents.

Paperwork Compliance

 1.    Ensures all data sheets are forwarded appropriately.

 2.    Ensures proper completion and filing of all accident and incident reports.

 3.    Ensures proper completion of daily documentation reports.

Overall Building Supervision

 1.    Takes necessary action to ensure that the physical environment of the facility is healthy, safe, and organized.

 2.    Coordinates and monitors proper use of "common areas" (e.g., dining room, outside areas, etc.).

 3.    Monitors dining room during meals.

 4.    Monitors shift change. Exchanges relevant information with the incoming Building Coordinator, including but not limited to:

‑ resident issues

‑ upcoming transports and family visits

‑ residents in protective supervision

‑ any changes in resident restrictions

‑ number of staff expected, call‑ins, leaves of absence, etc.

‑ need for emergency staff

‑ collection and review of shift changeover checklists

 5.    Coordinates pre‑placement resident tours and follow‑up reports, working with the Program Supervisor.

OTHER SIGNIFICANT DUTIES:

1.     Assists with Special Olympics as requested by the Program Coordinator.

2.     Performs other duties as delegated by the Program Coordinator or Director which may not specifically be provided for in this description, but which would reasonably fall under the auspices of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science field preferred. Minimum one year of experience working with children and/or adults having developmental and behavioral disabilities with associated emotional, neurological, and intellectual disorders in a residential setting required. Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems.Ability to remain calm under pressure while maintaining self-composure and self-control.Self-motivated and able to work under minimal direct supervision.Valid Wi driver’s license with an acceptable driving record per company policy.

Schedule & Benefit Information

Pay range: $24.75 - 25.75/hour
