Building Fabric Manager

To manage building and fabric both sub-contracted and In-house services within the Mitie Estates department across 2 hospitals to deliver pro-active and reactive maintenance services. The successful candidate will be expected to work Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 16.00 pm.


Responsibilities

Manage the Building Supervisor and the building fabric team to ensure both planned and reactive tasks are completed on time and to the correct quality. To manage specialist sub-contractors via the Building Supervisor providing planned preventive, reactive maintenance and minor works to the buildings within Newcastle hospitals. To manage all emergency Major Repairs ensuring all contract requirements are met. Act as group leader and deploy staff, requisitioning stores, materials and transport and arranging for security of stores and materials. Achieve excellent standards of productivity, workmanship and discipline. Encourage co-operation, teamwork and versatility including liaison with other disciplines and hospital staff. This will include where necessary resolving complaints by Trust staff. Supervise all Building Fabric Tasks in progress to ensure a smooth flow of work is maintained. Manage and undertake the maintenance of fire doors Undertake  surveys of hospital properties and report on the condition thereof. To maintain and improve work carried out on PPM basis. Make regular checks on all equipment/machinery being used by staff under their supervision. Carry out the general administration of their section. Interpret and work from all daily works orders, instructions, general drawings and specifications without supervision. Diagnose and repair faults in building fabric, to deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. Understand the working of the building fabric and instruct others in the aspect of this works. Liaise with the projects team to ensure the continuity of work for the team, and plan work in advance. To work to relevant standards and legislation including but not limited to H&S legislation, relevant Health Technical Memorandum, British Standards and good industry practice. Any other duties as reasonably required by the role or requested by Mitie management.

Knowledge Skills & Experience

Recognised fabric/building apprenticeship FDIS Certified Inspector Appropriate BTEC, City and Guilds qualifications in a building/fabric discipline 

Desirable

HNC or HND in relevant discipline Hospital Experience Operational FM experience    Post apprenticeship including supervisory experience Supervisory management Technical knowledge of building fabric Good verbal and written communication skills Basic IT skills Able to provide concise written reports
