GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Veterans' Home of Wyoming in Buffalo, Wyoming, seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Building and Grounds Assistant (Maintenance). Under limited supervision, the individual in this position provides a safe and secure environment for State buildings and grounds, monitors building mechanical systems for operation, and performs general maintenance and miscellaneous tasks as directed. There are no supervisory responsibilities. The Wyoming Department of Health offers an excellent benefits package!

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
+ Repairs adjust and assist in the installation of a variety of complex equipment and fixtures.
+ Works as a helper in any specialist trade area (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, or locksmith).
+ Performs preventive maintenance and janitorial duties in building facilities.
+ Participates in new construction projects.
+ Responsible for weed and pest control, mowing, trimming, aerating, trimming, and planting trees, repairing irrigation systems, and removing snow and ice in addition to other general building and grounds repair work.
+ Maintains current inventory of parts and supplies; keeps logs on equipment.
+ Assists with establishing the bi-annual budget for the nighttime grounds crew.
+ Designs and fabricates parts for tractors and mowers.
+ Performs warehouse duties, including receiving and delivery of supplies for all departments.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to individuals with experience in general maintenance and/or buildings and grounds.
KNOWLEDGE:
+ Knowledge of repairing & maintaining small engines, appliances & equipment.
+ Skills in remodeling, painting, and carpet installation.
+ Skills and ability to use small hand & power tools.
+ Skills in defensive driving.
+ Skills in proper body mechanics.
+ Skills in oral and written communication.
+ Knowledge of methods & practices of buildings & grounds maintenance.
+ Knowledge of underground sprinkler systems.
+ Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing & electrical repair.
+ Knowledge of vehicle maintenance & repair.
+ Knowledge of carpentry equipment & tools.
+ Knowledge of safety rules & regulations.
+ Knowledge of facility policies & procedures & fire and disaster procedures.
+ Ability to read blueprints & apply them to new construction or remodeling projects.
+ Ability to operate motorized equipment and vehicles.
+ Ability to identify problems & plan repairs.
+ Ability to make timely, objective decisions, work with all staff members & stay organized and on task.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Custodian
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Custodian

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
+ Exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, bio-hazards, and/or the elements.
+ Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and/or other items over 75 lbs.
+ This is a physical position that includes lifting heavy objects and working in uncomfortable places and positions.

+ FLSA: Non-exempt.
+ Annual influenza immunization is required.
+ A background information check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
