High School / 8.0 hrs/day - 5 days/week (Monday-Friday) 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm

Job Description
Under supervision, an employee in this position performs a variety of non-teaching duties requiring the exercise of good judgment and the ability to interact with the public. A Building Guard uses exceptional observation and decision-making skills to protect and secure the school environment by monitoring visitor activity and managing access to the building. There is a need to understand and use security technology and security/safety protocols, as well as the skills and ability to handle emergency situations. These professionals typically possess training in security. This is a Civil Service competitive job and you must be reachable on the current eligibility list or currently have this title.
Essential Responsibilities:
+ Monitor, authorize and manage entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft, vandalism and maintain security of the premises and its occupants.
+ Greets visitors to the building, ascertains their business, issues a pass and directs the individual to the proper location.
+ Notify administration, police or fire department in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons, or any perceived threat to the campus and its occupants.
+ Preserve order and protect property.
+ Ensure all main building and out-building doors and windows are secure at close of day.
+ Monitor surveillance cameras and property for intruders.

+ Works Independently Obtains necessary information and clarification from their supervisor when given an assignment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must have graduated from high school or possess a high school equivalency diploma in addition possess one of the following;
+ One year of college training majoring in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science or a related field; or,
+ Six month of experience as a watchman, guard, military police or related security position; or
+ An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Registration as a Security Guard by the State of New York, Department of State, Division of Licensing Services at the time of appointment.
HOURLY RATE: $21.78 per the OPSRPA bargaining agreement
