Sustainability Consulting at JLL provides comprehensive real estate sustainability services. Our North American team of experts partners with clients to plan and implement portfolio and individual asset decarbonization, manage Sustainable Building certification and develop standards, and provide strategic ESG advisory for reporting and implementation. The team for this position specializes in decarbonization advisory, building performance analysis, and scalable sustainability implementation. We are currently seeking a Building Performance Intern to join our Sustainability Consulting team in the Summer of 2025. This is a hybrid position based in Chicago, IL. Our team’s priorities are:

What the job involves: 

 

Contributing industry-changing projects 

As a Building Performance Intern at JLL’s Sustainability Consulting team, you will be directly involved in developing new capabilities for a user-friendly tool that supports our Sustainability Project Managers in executing over 500 parallel green building certification projects, including LEED and Living Future Zero Carbon. You'll work with a team to expand this web-based application's front-end and back-end components. Your continuous learning and application of new technologies will be key to your impact in this role. You'll interact with team members, contribute to project documentation, and assist in developing reports and technical materials.

Being collaborative, tech-savvy, and client-driven 

You are passionate about creating scalable, tech-driven solutions to the challenges of Sustainability in the built environment. Your primary focus will be supporting the development of our LEED building performance simulation tools, contributing to their technical aspects and practical application for our clients. You're proactive and eager to learn, not afraid to propose a solution to a problem. You seek to understand the complexities of building systems and green building certification processes.

 

As a Summer Intern in the Sustainability Consulting team at JLL

Assist in designing and implementing new building performance (energy & carbon) estimation web tool functionalities. Support the integration of OpenStudio infrastructure with the application Help develop measures and new scenario analysis for multiple options Contribute to the implementation of advanced estimation methods for planning and implementation Participate in testing and validation of the tool across various building scenarios Assist in creating user documentation and training materials

Education, Skills, and Experience

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a technical Architecture program. You are graduating within a year.Familiarity with programming languages and software development technologies (Python, Ruby, Git)Understanding of building systems and sustainability concepts.Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.Excellent communication and teamwork abilitiesInterest in Real Estate and consulting.Familiarity with energy modeling software, including OpenStudio and EnergyPlus.Experience with web development technologies (Flask, Django, Streamlit apps, Ruby on Rails)Working with cloud resources (Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services)Knowledge of the LEED certification process.Tech minded  - You should be comfortable with technology and eager to learn new tools. Proficiency in programming and willingness to work with energy modeling software, particularly OpenStudio, is highly valuedAn achiever  - We expect you to think creatively, manage your time effectively, and contribute to a diverse and talented team. Most importantly, you'll have a passion for sustainable building practices and a desire to make a real impact.

We do not offer relocation assistance or housing for our internship program.

Estimated total compensation for this position:

8,400.00 – 9,600.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
