Thurrock Council are seeking a Building Surveyor with good communication skill, technical knowledge and either has, or is working towards, MRICS status, to join our busy Technical Services Team. This role involves overseeing a housing portfolio of approximately 10,000 units, including high-rise residential tower blocks, low-rise blocks, and sheltered schemes.
You will be working in the Housing Assets delivery team which is made up of approximately 40 people in multiple teams: Building Surveying and Capital Works, Engineering, Tenancy Management, Estates Management, Property Finance and Surface Water Drainage / Flooding.
Our Building Surveying Team has 5 surveyors, and the Building Surveyor role sits within this Technical services team.
Duties will include feasibility studies, cost planning, design / specification, tendering, contract administration and identification of typical building defects.
You will have responsibility for delivery of routine maintenance works and capital projects, from inception stage, through to feasibility, design, procurement and on-site delivery stages.
Duties may also include undertaking of condition surveys, preparation of onward maintenance plans and costings, and general asset inspections.
The successful candidate should be proactive, confident, and have experience in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders. A strong technical understanding of building management, fire safety, gas, and water systems is essential. Due to the locality of the buildings across the Thurrock Borough it is essential that the successful candidates have access to a vehicle that is insured and can be used for work purposes.
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check at Basic Level is required for this post.
