Description: Bureau of Air Waste Air Quality Intern
MassDEP’s Western Regional Office is seeking an intern to support a range of air quality initiatives, particularly in Environmental Justice (EJ) communities. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to work with real-world air monitoring data to assess environmental conditions, identify potential pollution sources, and support public health-focused research.
Responsibilities will include:
Download, organize, and analyze air quality data from monitoring stations and other sources.Use Excel to assess and visualize data trends through tables and charts.Assist with a cumulative impact assessment (CIA) in collaboration with senior MassDEP staff.Interpret findings to evaluate air quality impacts in EJ communities.Develop a written summary report and PowerPoint presentation outlining key results and insights.Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
Strong skills in the use of the Microsoft Suite, particularly with Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Skills in data management and analysis.Working knowledge of statistics is also preferred.Ability to gather information and maintain accurate records.Ability to understand and apply the regulations, policies, and procedures governing assigned activities.A resume and cover letter must be submitted and uploaded as part of the application.
