POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bus Driver will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, courteous and efficient transportation service for our program participants. Transports children and staff to schools, field trips, and other locations as approved by the Director and provide supervision and direction to children.

Must have a current Class B CDLAir Brake Endorsement requiredDriver for afterschool and SKY Academy as needed18.00 per hour without School Bus Endorsement25.00 per hour with School Bus Endorsement

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Exemplifies appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all children and shows patience, understanding, and respect for others.Instructs and guides participants through the rules of riding the bus and ensures adherence; disciplines children within established guidelines of the YMCA and parent, and only when appropriate.Immediately reports all unusual incidents or accidents to the Transportation CoordinatorWill appear clean, neat, and appropriately attired in accordance with the Association’s Policy on personal appearanceWill adhere to all policies as stated in the YMCA of Southwest Florida HandbookExercises effective problem solving techniques, tackles issues directly and makes timely decisions based upon logical conclusions of factual informationCompletes work in a timely, accurate and thorough mannerNothing in this job description restricts management’s job to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any timeAble to prioritize and meet deadlinesAble to maintain confidentialityPositive attitudeMust be a self starter, with high energy and a positive attitudeResponsible for upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by my department.All other duties as required necessary. QUALIFICATIONS:

2+ years of experience transporting children highly desirableMust possess a valid and active driver's license (Commercial Driver’s License required).Ability to meet federal/state/company driving standards (may include license verification, drug testing and driver's test.Must meet motor vehicle records clearance requirements.Must be at least 21 years of age.Successfully meet the Association’s policies on background screeningAdhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policyMust meet all health requirements as required by licensing.Understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.Be able to drive the vehicle safely.Ability to communicate effectively with children, families and staff.Excellent verbal and communication skillsMust have compassion for and desire to work with children.
