Bus Monitor

Job Summary:

The Bus Monitor is responsible for supervising and keeping children seated at all times while on the bus; physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, be able to exit the school bus in case of an emergency, help children on and off the bus; intervene appropriately so that children with disruptive behavior do not interfere with the safe operation of the bus.

Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities:

Willing to learn how to operate and use all office equipment.Able to keep track of emergency list and daily checklist for children on bus. Participates in keeping the bus clean and neat.Become familiar with Greater Lawrence area streets and program bus routes.Inform Transportation Supervisor of any changes with families as they may receive them. Remind parents of any program changes (bus times, training days, etc.) Report any bus-related incidents to Transportation Supervisor for appropriate action. Assist in classrooms or parent activities if needed. Assist with other cross-content areas as assigned by Supervisor. Support school readiness activities and parent engagement.

Skills & Qualifications:

Must have the ability to manage a large group of small children in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Must be at least 18 years of age with minimum of high school education. Have knowledge and understanding of young children.Ability to manage very large group of small children in a developmentally appropriate manner.Must have understanding of transportation safety guidelines.Demonstrated ability to follow all regulations, including evacuation procedures drills.Must be able to follow instructions and perform duties with minimum supervision.Ability to maintain positive relationship with parents, children, and co-workers. Must be punctual and reliable. Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal communication skills in both languages).Show documented proof of current physical exam, negative TB test, and proof of MMR immunity. (Hepatitis B immunity is advisable). Must obtain First Aid/CPR Certification.Must have a suitable CORI, SORI & DCF background check on file prior to employment.Must have a suitable fingerprint check completed within the first thirty (30) days of employment.Ability to work effectively with and meet the needs of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, cultures, and identities, including underserved communities and people from the different racial groups, socioeconomic statuses, nationalities, and languages that make up GLCAC’s clientele, to support the agency’s mission of building a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization for employees and clients alike.

Travel:  Is Required for training and visits to other locations.

Physical Demands: This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment and uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.
