Bus Stop Supervisor - Van Horne JobID: 1389 + Position Type: Transportation/ Bus Stop Supervisor + Date Posted: 2/21/2024 + Location: Central Office + Date Available: Immediately    SUBSTITUTE BUS STOP SUPERVISORBENTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT IS SEEKING A BUS STOP SUPERVISOR AT CENTRAL OFFICE (SOUTHEAST SIDE OF THE BUILDING). AFTERNOONS only. Wage: $12.00/AFTERNOON session Bus Stop Supervisor/Monitor NATURE OF WORK An employee functioning in this role supervises the bus stop where students congregate to ride the school bus. Generally, the employee arrives to Central Office/old Van Horne Elementary School, opens the doors to the school on the southwest end (if students need to be indoors) and places the sign in the road. The employee then supervises students who are waiting to ride the bus. The Van Horne elementary building can be used for students to wait inside on cold or incelement weather days. The outdoor playground can be used on nice weather days as students are waiting for their shuttle bus. The employee will assist students to enter the bus once they arrive. Typically, 3 separate buses arrive to shuttle students to various towns. This position may also be assigned to occasiontally ride a school bus on assigned route(s) to provide safe and efficient transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the programs and offerings of the school system. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in maintaining acceptable relations with parents/guardians of students transported and with school personnel. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise and guide students at bus stop. Ensure organization, student expectations, safety of students, loading and unloading of students on bus. Supervises student(s) as they board and leave bus and cross street. Takes children into building and helps them find their way. Learns and adapts to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. Manages student behavior and reports student discipline problems to appropriate administrator. Becomes familiar with all routes to and from school campus to be of assistance to driver. Supervises use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students. Follows emergency procedures and helps driver administer first aid, if necessary. Operates equipment according to established safety procedures. Follows established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, assisting students, etc. Becomes familiar with and follows procedures established by transportation and special education offices. Assumes responsibility for performing the personal care required under the I.E.P. during the pick-up, transporting and the unloading of students. Maintains regular attendance. Performs other related work as required. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school and some experience in transporting humans preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Must be physically able to supervise at bus stop, move about readily, assist students on and off bus. Requires ability to read correspondence, reports, instructions, etc. Requires ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. Requires ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Requires the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green, and amber. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear. Requires sufficient hearing ability to distinguish warning sounds made by horns, screeching tires, sirens, grade-crossing alarms and train whistles. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of traffic laws and school bus regulations. Knowledge of safety regulations and standards for school buses. General knowledge of Transportation Department instructions. Ability to maintain discipline of students assigned to ride the school bus. Ability to complete required reports. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in applying standards to a variety of work situations. Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in contact with parents/guardians or students and with school personnel. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
