Position Summary:

The Canadian Centre for Computational Genomics (https://c3g.ca) at McGill University develops open-source research data management solutions across the data generation lifecycle. We work on data discovery and exploration portals, APIs, databases, and other tools, enabling researchers to harmonise, store, retrieve, share, and analyse genomics and clinical data for large-scale studies and international data-sharing initiatives. These focus on areas such as human health research, such as the International Human Epigenome Consortium (IHEC), the Quebec COVID-19 Biobank (BQC19), and the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope Cancer Centre Network (MoHCCN). We also deliver bioinformatics analysis software and high performance computing services for the life science research community, including analysis pipelines used by multiple academic institutions.

The Business Analyst will engage in the development and management of online data-sharing solutions, notably the Bento Platform (https://github.com/bento-platform), leveraged by the upcoming Pan-Canadian Genome Library (https://genomelibrary.ca/), and other projects in the fields of genomics, epigenomics, and life science-related fields.

Under the supervision of the Data Team Lead, the Business Analyst will analyse, document, and manage business requirements, develop comprehensive project plans, and ensure the successful execution of projects. This role involves coordinating project activities, monitoring progress, and addressing any risks or issues that arise. The Business Analyst will act as a key liaison between stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and alignment with project goals. They will also contribute to the design and implementation of user-friendly data-sharing solutions and support quality assurance processes. We aim for short development cycles that involve small but frequent releases, and constant interactions with the bioinformatics platform team members.

Primary Responsibilities:

Meet with stakeholders to determine their requirements for products to be delivered.Analyse and document business requirements and user needs.Contribute to the design and implementation of user-friendly data-sharing solutions.Participate in the conception of user interfaces that address stakeholders needs.Write documentation to facilitate products onboarding.Develop project plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.Oversee project activities, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and objectives.Facilitate communication between stakeholders, including bioinformatics managers, developers, and external partners.Monitor and report on project progress, addressing any issues or risks.Ensure adherence to project budgets and timelines.Support quality assurance processes, including testing and validation of new features.Promote the use of best practices and industry standards in project management and data management.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Hard skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Knowledge of software development processes and methodologies.Experience with stakeholder management and user requirement analysis.Experience with project management tools (e.g., Redmine, JIRA) is mandatory.Undergraduate degree in business administration, computer science, engineering, or a related field.

Soft skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.Open mind towards new technologies and innovation.

Strong Assets:

Experience in the life sciences, genomics, or bioinformatics sectors.Knowledge of data management and sharing platforms.Experience with the Git version control system.Bilingual (English and French).

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.
