Business Development Manager - Defence & Security

This role is as a key player in the CAE Defence & Security (D&S) Business Development and Capture team. As a CAE BD Manager, you will be responsible for pursuing, developing and winning training and mission support business opportunities as part of CAE’s strategy to sustain its leadership as Canada’s foremost training and military operational support company. It requires sound business development sense, specialized military environmental expertise, procurement and defence policy knowledge, and the ability to take opportunities to the point of bid, and into execution. The role we are offering you involves the following: + Responsible for achieving significant order intake in your assigned program areas, generally in magnitude of $50M+ annually + Identify marketplace opportunities, prospect and develop new clients and partners, maintain and grow existing client and partner relationships, develop and execute capture strategies, and execute program pursuit using CAE’s Lead to Award (L2A) process + Support the development and positioning of CAE capabilities to create and win opportunities within the Canadian defence & security market + Work with engineering and product teams to develop innovative solutions and drive the development of competitive CAE solutions + Work with the marketing and communications team to plan events and outreach activities, deliver strategic sales presentations, and develop the CAE brand + Work with our global offsets organization to develop effective offset strategies and explore academic and indigenous partnering opportunities + Lead complex pursuit and capture teams, developing win themes and capture strategy as a team + Manage and account for budgets and expenses associated with approved pursuits + Provide executive/management and operations/engineering disciplines with visibility into key opportunities, sharing your subject matter expertise freely with your CAE colleagues + Assist, and where necessary lead bid and proposal teams to prepare and submit winning proposals for your assigned opportunities + Maintain awareness of competitive market offerings and new technologies Our ideal candidate has: + A Bachelor’s degree or greater in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, or practical experience in a related technical field. MBA not required, but preferred + In-depth knowledge of military operations and/or technology either through military service in Canada or an allied country, or through related industry experience + 12+ years experience in the Canadian Defence and Security industry + 6+ years of experience in / exposure to Canadian Defence procurement + Excellent business acumen and strategic mindset + Demonstrated ability to lead teams and collaborate with key OEMs and business partners + Advanced sales, market research, and business skills and knowledge + Excellent written and verbal communication skills + Proven networking skills and an established network of contacts within the Canadian defence industry, the Department of National Defence (DND), Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and Innovation Science and Economic Development (ISED), or in an equivalent Public Safety & Security environment + Ability to hold a NATO SECRET Security Clearance & Controlled Goods Clearance + Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or with a valid Work Permit + Ability to travel within Canada (25-40%) depending on sales activity/assignments.
