Business Development Manager, Excipients & Actives
Location: UK / EMEA

We are currently looking for a competitive and talented technical business development professional with a strong background in pharmaceutical excipients and/or nutraceutical applications and formulations who likes to surpass goals and excel in a challenging environment. The role will primarily focus on promoting Univar Solutions and its excipient and actives portfolios into the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries across EMEA.
What you will do:
Initiate, develop, and close new excipient and actives opportunities within the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries, primarily collaborating with the customer’s R&D and business development teams. Assist and provide excipient and actives product recommendations and technical and formulation support to our customers. Support customers using Univar Solutions excipient and actives portfolio during their entire R&D/product development cycle. Develop, recommend, and help lead market strategies based on ingredient product lines. Create, lead, and provide industry-specific technical product and application training for internal and external teams. Develop necessary tools and initiate activities for the field organization (e.g. sales literature, technical content, training seminars, etc.) Conduct technical sales calls and actively grow the territory to enhance Univar Solutions position within each account. Generate industry reports, keep abreast of product and industry trends, and provide corrective actions recommendations where appropriate and applicable. Continually work with the Pharmaceutical Marketing team to publish thought-leadership content, tradeshow presentations, and assist in generating industry specific marketing materials. Actively promote product lines by frequently meeting customers in person and virtually to develop new business opportunities. Collaboration with Univar Solutions application laboratories (mainly Essen, Germany) to determine and develop new business opportunities and to utilise this resource to optimum effect. Share responsibility for achieving financial targets for the assigned areas. Communicate with other internal business units to support lead generation programmes that drive sales. Actively communicate qualitative and quantitative updates utilizing company CRM tools (Sales Force) and managing your own opportunity pipeline. Participate, network, and contribute to industry conferences, tradeshows, and supplier visits. Demonstrate commitment to safety, both personal and for that of your colleagues. Other duties as required.
What you will require:
5+ years of experience in excipient and actives applications, formulations, manufacturing, and/or technical focus in the pharmaceutical and/or nutraceutical industries with a proven history of success would be preferred. Bachelor’s degree (Chemistry, Pharmacy or Life Sciences preferred) Strong technical knowledge in pharmaceutical and/or nutraceutical formulations and applications would be preferred. In-depth understanding of the pharmaceutical product life cycle and drug development cycle. Demonstrated experience with a passion for monitoring industry emerging trends. Must be able to work with an elevated level of autonomy and independence. Strong people skills to build and leverage strong working relationships internally and externally across a diverse stakeholder network. Excellent written and verbal communication skills – fluent in English is essential. Effective initiative-taker with an affinity to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment. Excellent ability to understand, analyze and communicate complex scientific and technical information. Be a visionary and bring creativity and innovation to the team, improve performance and spur change. Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time, mainly EMEA. Travel may vary in frequency and duration. Experience and ease in navigating regulated markets. Must have strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills (oral and written).
