Business Development Specialist

Under general direction, the Business Development Specialist supports the growth of UL Solutions’ renewables advisory services across the ASEAN region. The role involves executing strategic business development plans, maintaining strong client relationships, and identifying opportunities in wind, solar, and energy storage segments. The Specialist promotes UL’s capabilities, supports technical solutioning, and works closely with sales, technical, and marketing teams to generate revenue and achieve booking targets.
Primary Responsibilities:
+ Conduct market research to support the development of strategies and roadmaps for renewables advisory services, including wind (onshore and nearshore), solar PV, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
+ Analyze potential and existing markets to identify business opportunities. Recommend changes in service offerings, delivery procedures, and strategic positioning.
+ Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including project developers, investors, EPCs, lenders, regulators, and strategic partners to drive long-term business growth.
+ Identify and engage prospective customers and decision-makers using structured research techniques and industry insights.
+ Develop strategic partnerships with test partners, associations, and regulatory bodies to support sustainable business development.
+ Collaborate with business unit leadership, operations, and sales teams to formulate market-specific value propositions and strategies to meet revenue and booking goals.
+ Support the development of global and regional account strategies, goals, and commercial plans.
+ Promote customer satisfaction and loyalty by ensuring consistent engagement and alignment of services with client needs.
+ Provide technical support to the commercial team by helping translate client requirements into compliance and advisory solutions.
+ Prepare and deliver executive presentations, debriefings, and proposal discussions with clients and internal stakeholders.
+ Assist the marketing team in developing and implementing campaigns, promotional activities, and outreach efforts to raise awareness of UL’s renewables offerings.
+ Contribute to internal planning processes, including opportunity pipeline management, resourcing input, and budgeting support.
+ Adhere to the UL Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
Secondary Responsibilities:
+ Assist management by providing input on market leads and supporting the pursuit of key clients.
+ Respond to urgent or sensitive customer issues with professionalism and follow-through.
+ Develop and manage relationships with assigned prospects and existing clients; assess account potential and contribute to opportunity development.
+ Engage stakeholders to explain the benefits of UL’s services, provide follow-up support, and resolve technical or procedural issues.
+ Maintain accurate records of activities and interactions using UL’s CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce).
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
+ Minimum five (5) years of direct experience working with renewable energy projects, such as wind (onshore or nearshore), solar PV, or battery energy storage systems (BESS), preferably in a consulting, business development, or technical advisory capacity.
+ Proven track record in identifying and pursuing business opportunities within the renewable energy sector in ASEAN or similar emerging markets.
+ Demonstrated ability to develop client relationships, deliver tailored solutions, and navigate complex stakeholder environments including developers, investors, EPCs, and lenders.
+ Strong knowledge of the project development lifecycle, permitting, technical due diligence, and/or grid connection considerations in renewable energy.
+ Familiarity with new service development and portfolio management concepts is an advantage.
+ Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills in cross-cultural contexts.
+ Experience using CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and digital collaboration platforms.
+ Willingness to travel within the ASEAN region as needed.
