Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.  In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description

Aquila Mine is seeking a Business Improvement Superintendent to lead the site’s Business Improvement (BI) function. The mine is situated in Middlemount, Queensland where you will find a local community looking to expand and grow its people.

The Site Business Improvement Superintendent plays a pivotal role in driving substantial improvements through the application of AAOM principles. This includes the thorough analysis of high-quality business performance data to inform data-driven decision-making. The primary responsibility is to provide valuable insights and guidance to the Site Senior Leadership Team, working towards the achievement of our business expectations.

As the Business Improvement Superintendent your responsibilities are, but not limited to:

Develop and implement the 12 to 24-month site Business Improvement Strategy and Operating Master Schedule.Identify, develop and deploy strategic Business Improvement initiatives.Utilise the Anglo American Operating Model (AAOM) to support the feedback capability in an integrated approach across the operation, improving safety, production, culture and reducing costs.Coach and train leaders to ensure capability uplift is achieved.Calibrate, maintain and analyse the site Business Structure Performance (BSP) model.Identify gaps between demonstrated performance vs business expectations, and provide recommendations based on these results.Facilitate Management Routines across sites and continually work to improve the availability of accurate data use.Maintain the Site Feedback Standard and provide governance and oversight of the requirements including coaching of relevant leaders to ensure adherence to the Standard.Develop the capability at site to undertake Level 1 Accident & Investigations (A&Is) and participate in Level 2 and 3 A&Is.Utilise and coach process areas in the use of Statistical Process Control, guidelines, tools and knowledge.Ensure all process areas at site have measures and performance targets aligned to the business structure.Consistently apply Safety & Health principles in all site interactions and take full ownership for safety on Site.

Qualifications

 The key attributes contributing to your success in this role will include:

Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline combined with practical experience.Lean / Six Sigma Qualification highly regarded.Underground mining knowledge is highly regarded.Strong analytical, project and product management skills.Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.Ability to draw on data in order to make a diagnosis, decide between alternative methods to address individual case(s) and recommend improvements to processes/systems.Ability to coach and support managers to initiate, implement and drive change across a discipline/business unit.
