Position Description:

The purpose of the Business Operations Manager is to serve as a trusted partner with Business Unit Medical Affairs and Internal Global Medical Affairs Organization (GMAO) teams to lead operational strategic planning and execution, in alignment with Business Unit prioritization. The Business Operations Manager is expected to connect Medical Affairs TA strategy to tactic execution at a campaign-level, advise Business Unit (BU), Business Unit Integrators (BUI), Field Medical Strategy and Operations (FMSO), and Medical Omnichannel and Independent Education (MOIE) teams on capacity and resource utilization and achieve customer experience objectives by driving speed and efficiency. The Business Operations Manager will leverage strong internal partnerships to inspire accountability for adoption and pull-through of solutions. When needed, the Business Operations Manager will rapidly escalate issues so that GMAO and Global Content Hub (GCH) leadership can be proactively engaged in solutions and trade-off decisions. This role will need to also be proficient and provide ownership of the apps created on PowerApps and PowerBI dashboards to carve out different data insights.

Key Objectives/Deliverables:

Know Lilly TA business and our internal business partners.Solid understanding of Customer Plans and TA priorities.Develop effective relationships with peers’ internal capabilities (e.g., BUI, MOIE, BU Project Managers (PM), FMSO, and GCH)Demonstrate deep understanding of information and material flows, processes, procedures, systems, and methods.Demonstrate understanding of internal business partners’ people, processes, and technology.Demonstrate understanding of how to influence/manage operating expenses and how they impact our department’s contribution to Lilly.Possess understanding of Lilly’s compliance standards and quality requirements.Manage day-to-day communication and ongoing relationships as it relates to current, new and upcoming projects.Partner and collaborate with other site-level teams to identify synergies and implementation of best practices.Support Operational Strategic Planning and ExecutionServe as primary partner to GCH PMs, BU PMs, MOIE and BUI team members during business planning to enable capacity planning to be completed.Partner with GCH PMs to complete yearly book of work planning and quarterly/monthly backlog grooming to meet the BU priorities.Review scopes of work; coordinate with Medical Affairs colleagues to update as needed.Lead prioritization discussions: engage peers as needed to counsel teams and avoid wasteful approaches to achieving Clinical Care Gap (CCG)/Strategic Initiatives (SI) objectives.Lead periodic backlog reviews with BU Medical Affairs and GMAO peers to prioritize opportunities and ensure alignment with the US Execution Playbook for Medical Affairs deliverables. Partner with peers to adjust as necessary based on progress and team capacity.Optimize Effectiveness across Business UnitEnsure focus on Team Lilly approach and enhance collaboration across all engaged parties (Medical Affairs BU, MOIE, BUI, FMSO, GCH, etc.)Should be able to define and refine the processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)s, checklists, and metrics to drive internal efficiencies across the functions.Conduct periodic team health discussions with engaged parties to identify opportunities for improvement.Identify opportunities to improve understanding of requirements and process by the extended team; coordinate with internal partners to deliver training as needed (e.g., MOIE operations)Seek internal and external inputs or industry best practices to optimize or identify tools for efficient planning and execution. Build strong partnership with internal Lilly Marketing Studios (LMS) organization for synergies.Ensure transparent and regular reporting and dashboarding to provide actionable business insights to all stakeholders (e.g., BUI, MOIE, BU PMs, FMSO, GCH)

Minimum Experience/Personal Skill Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific, health, communications, technology, business management, health outcomes, or public health related field.

Additional Preferences:

5+ years’ experience working within a regulated industry (e.g., pharma)5+ years’ experience in Agency Business Operations Management, Medical Affairs/Marketing Operations, or comparable rolesProficient in Power Apps, PowerBI, data analysis & reporting, Excel, PowerPointExperience with project management software (e.g., Wrike, JIRA) and proficiency in a variety of PC applications and multifunctional diagramming tools including Microsoft Project, SAP (primarily project systems), Visio, Lucid Chart etc.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.Proven planning and organizational skillsDemonstrated ability to analyze, interpret and present data for business understanding and drawing insights.Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time with flexibility to adjust quickly and effectively to frequent change and altered priorities.Product Launch experienceStrong Project Management AcumenExperience with medical approval systems (e.g., Veeva Vault Med Comms)Able to influence, collaborate and work effectively on a team.Demonstrated enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.Skilled at analysis, judgment and decision making, with an eye toward quality and continuous improvement.
