The Idaho State Public Defender (SPD) is a newly created state agency which provides trial representation to indigent criminal defendants pursuant to Idaho Code §§ 19-6005, 19-6009 (effective 10/1/24). The SPD is responsible for all indigent defense cases throughout the State of Idaho, including both juveniles and adults. Additionally, the SPD is a qualifying employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES The primary purpose of the Business Operations Specialist is to manage the business and administrative functions, projects and programs to support the Office of the State Public Defender in meeting its core goal – providing zealous holistic representation This is a newly created non-classified position that reports to the Operations Director for SPD functions (50%) and the Alternate Counsel Division (ACD) Director for ACD functions (50%). The ACD arranges for legal representation for indigent clients in Child Protective Act (CPA) cases, post-conviction cases, and in cases where the SPD is appointed but due to conflicts of interest or other ethical reasons, cannot represent the client. Example of Duties + Assisting in the administrative office with the day-to-day operations of the agency and its implementation of policies and procedures + Communicating with staff, contractors, agency partners and stakeholders, + Following systems and processes to support staff needs + Assisting SPD and ACD management with administrative tasks and projects as needed + Negotiating and coordinating space planning, overseeing remodeling and building maintenance projects + Planning and implementing projects to support SPD operations, + Developing and implementing business processes, operating policies and procedures + Managing and monitoring contracts + Preparing and making oral presentations and developing written recommendations for consideration by management + Maintaining confidentiality of client information and adhering to ethical standards + Other duties as assigned.
