Business Services Specialist, Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy

The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia is seeking a Business Services Specialist. The Batten School is continuing a substantial growth trajectory, and this position provides an excellent opportunity for exposure to financial operations in a positive, collaborative work environment. 

The Business Services Specialist will perform operational support for a composite of several functions including fiscal administration, procurement, human resources, academic support, student services, communications, and other administrative functions. This position will report to the Director of Finance, Administration, & Operations but work closely and collaboratively with a 6-person finance team.

Hybrid work arrangements are available for this position.

Responsibilities include:

Oversee expense reports and ensure proper accounting for school transactions. Assist faculty and staff with management of Travel & Expense card transactions and processes. Perform monthly account certifications for selected cost centers. Process purchase orders and employee/student reimbursements according to University procurement policies and procedures, to include Workday and PaymentWorks responsibilities. Issue invoices and track payments connected with workshops, executive education programs, etc. Track and provide administrative oversight on faculty expenditure accounts. Track various types of agreements, arrangements, memorandum of understandings, etc. negotiated by Batten School administration. Student positions: facilitate hires, labor adjustments, federal work study requirements, and terminations within Workday and Oracle Systems; reconcile these transactions within UBI and Workday as necessary. Other administrative duties that support financial operations. Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma Experience: Six years of relevant work experience or combination of relevant associate’s or bachelor's degree and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Direct accounting or financial operations experience related to job dutiesStrong abilities in math and working with numbersExceptional organizational skills and attention to detailGood ability to work independently and to bring tasks to completionExperience with Excel and/or accounting software. Workday Financials is a plusExperience in higher education or non-profit environments a plus

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $45,000 - $55,000 commensurate with qualifications.

The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
