This position is based out of our Littleton, CO office with Wednesdays being remote. The pay range for the position is $80,000 - $90,000. We are unable to offer work sponsorship for this role.
The Business Tax Compliance Specialist ensures companies meet critical indirect tax obligations, such as sales, use, and payroll taxes, while navigating complex regulations. This role is vital to preventing compliance risks, mitigating audit findings, and maintaining accurate tax filings. By offering expert guidance to clients and supporting internal tax teams, the specialist ensures efficient processes, fosters client trust, and safeguards businesses against costly penalties or missed deadlines.
Your impact:
Communicate effectively with clients, explaining complex indirect tax matters (sales/use, payroll) in a clear and accessible manner. Provide tailored guidance on compliance requirements, deadlines, and best practices. Assist tax agents by answering technical questions and providing support for complex scenarios. Conduct training sessions to improve the team's understanding of indirect tax compliance. Develop training materials and resources to enhance onboarding and continuous learning for team members. Maintain up-to-date sales tax rates for state and local entities using proprietary software. Monitor changes in tax regulations and ensure timely updates to compliance processes. Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and external auditors during tax audits. Prepare necessary documentation and provide insights to resolve audit queries effectively. Contribute to the development and implementation of process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of indirect tax compliance. Identify potential compliance issues through periodic reviews and audits of clients’ tax filings, addressing them proactively. Handle correspondence related to sales/use and payroll tax compliance, maintaining clear and concise records. Ensure proper documentation of processes, decisions, and client interactions for future reference. Share insights and updates with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvementAbout you:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field; or equivalent experience with indirect tax filings. Minimum of three years of accounting or compliance-related experience, preferably in a similar industry. Strong computer and technical skills, including proficiency in relevant software applications. Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely. Team-player with a client-centric attitude, dedicated to delivering high-quality service. Ability to manage multiple deadlines, adapt to changing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with tax compliance research tools such as Bloomberg, Avalara are a plus. Preferred Skills Certified Member of the Institute (CMI) – Sales Tax or Payroll Tax Advanced Certificate in Sales and Use Tax Compliance (AICPA) Tax Compliance and Reporting Certification (ICPA or equivalent)What's in this for you?
