Business Technology Manager
Overview AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARP’s millions of members. The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services. Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services. AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies. AARP Media Advertising Network (AMAN), a division of ASI, connects marketers to the largest and most influential 50+ demographic in the country. Anchored by three core properties – AARP The Magazine, AARP Bulletin, and AARP.org – and augmented by special publications, newsletters, digital programs and emerging platforms, our Network delivers an average of 150 million monthly in-home and digital impressions. AMAN drives revenue through media sales in support of AARP's mission and is comprised of four core teams: sales, marketing, research and operations. The Business Technology Manager provides system administration for department specific tools (e.g. Salesforce, Naviga/Elan revenue management, reporting tools e.g. Tableau and Microstrategy BI, integrations between systems). As a department project manager, this position is the liaison between the business unit and IT/vendors to ensure that business requirements are gathered, tested and implemented accurately. This role, in partnership with the Business Technology Director, manages data quality and accuracy, report/dashboard development, troubleshoots system/data incidents, and utilizes agile methodology to implement system changes. Responsibilities Manages technology projects and cross-functional teams to determine resources needed and responsibly stewards them, tracks progress against established timelines, evaluates training, and monitors adoption. Collaborates across teams during the discovery phase to assess value, usability, and feasibility of enhancement concept and experience. Provides strategic guidance on the department's technology roadmap and manages the process of designing and implementing improvements and new functionality in technology applications. Creates product strategies and roadmaps based on a deep understanding of the product technology stack, department goals and consumer needs. Leads technical engagements utilizing an agile planning and development methodology. Acts as a business liaison with technology and vendors and provides end-user training and support. Provides counsel to other business units in the execution of technology initiatives and digital engagement. Collaborates with management and IT to identify opportunities to streamline technology processes that support the business unit. Engages with internal and external vendor teams to establish priorities, manage work requests, and ensure on-time delivery of enhancements. Gathers an in-depth understanding of the organization's technical landscape, data management practices, workflows, and data available across the organization. Advises on data accuracy and integration best practices, as needed. Defines and translates strategic business ideas into technical product implementations utilizing actionable, digestible user stories and acceptance criteria, ensuring all organizational, regulatory, and strategic compliance requirements and objectives are met. Utilizes technology to advance AARP and consumer priorities. Serves as a resource within their business unit on appropriate tools/software and shares expertise openly and accessibly to advance business unit priorities and projects and to meet critical goals. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in systems management, sales operations, or a related field. Must have experience in a sales environment; experience in digital and print advertising sales is strongly preferred. Experience with database systems and data analysis tools. Ability to lead projects as a liaison between business and IT, ensuring effective communication, structured meeting cadence, and clear management of business requirements and expectations. Strong expertise in business intelligence tools and data analytics in a sales environment, including sales forecasting, sales rep/territory assignments, and account hierarchies. Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a commitment to optimizing processes and meeting the needs of internal and external stakeholders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
