The Business Unit Controller is responsible for managing financial operations within the business unit, including compliance with corporate policies, technical accounting support, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role will provide critical financial insights to support business strategies, assist with transformation initiatives, and ensure proper controls are in place. The Business Unit Controller will work closely with corporate finance teams, supporting the consolidation process, overseeing reporting needs, and addressing both US GAAP and local reporting requirements.
Some of the things you will be doing:
Analysis of Accounting Issues & Financial Reporting: Analyze and resolve accounting issues related to financial reporting and analysis for the business unit. Ensure that all financial statements are accurate, complete, and prepared in accordance with US GAAP and other relevant local reporting standards. Provide accounting insights that help the business unit align with broader corporate financial strategies. Compliance with Corporate Policies: Ensure that all business unit operations comply with corporate financial policies, procedures, and controls. Serve as the point of contact for corporate policy implementation and enforcement at the business unit level. Monitor adherence to established controls, ensuring all regulatory and corporate requirements are met. Technical Accounting Support & Control Structure: Provide technical accounting guidance to ensure compliance with both US GAAP and local statutory requirements. Develop and maintain a robust control structure for the business unit, identifying and mitigating financial risks. Ensure the business unit follows appropriate accounting treatments and supports the preparation of technical memos when necessary. Close & Consolidation Assistance: Assist with the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate consolidation of the business unit's financials into the corporate financial statements. Oversee business unit reporting, ensuring alignment with corporate timelines and reporting requirements. Transformation Initiatives: Support finance transformation initiatives, including systems implementations, process improvements, and adoption of new financial technologies. Collaborate with corporate finance and IT teams to ensure smooth transitions during finance transformation projects. Local & US GAAP Reporting: Provide assistance in reconciling financial reporting differences between US GAAP and local reporting requirements. Ensure local compliance with statutory financial reporting obligations while aligning with corporate financial reporting practices.What technical skills, experience, and qualifications do you need?
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent preferred. 7+ years of relevant experience, including financial reporting, controls and technical accounting. Big 4 experience preferred Extensive knowledge of US GAAP and experience with local reporting standards (IFRS or other relevant frameworks). Strong experience with financial close, consolidation, and multi-entity reporting. Ability to lead and enforce financial controls and ensure compliance with corporate policies. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, EPM) and strong Excel skills required. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with cross-functional teams. Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise. Ability to provide clear, actionable financial insights to support strategic initiatives. Strong leadership and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration. Proven ability to navigate complex regulatory and financial environments.
