Purpose Provide oversight and direction of a business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables. Responsibilities Leadership and Direction Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables. Provide effective leadership and act in a manner that maintains a positive, multicultural, and productive work environment with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors. Carry out management responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating and appraising individual performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Mentor less experienced managers. At the Operational and Company Level Working with Regional Manager and Business Unit Operations Manager, ensure all business unit production methods and practices are consistent with internal quality standards and customer requirements. Lead the Business Unit in developing and implementing effective systems for improving internal and external quality, cost improvements, and on-time delivery to meet or exceed client requirements. Assist with the marketing of the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships. Develop and maintain leads as well as contacts within the field. Represent the Company in public settings. Market clients for future projects. Convert current projects into follow-on projects. Develop and bring in new projects and work opportunities. Participate in or lead proposal presentations. Do the Work Develop business unit priorities as they relate to requirements and communicate daily with engineering, quality, finance, human resources, production, and suppliers. Analyze, establish, and communicate performance standards. Measure performance against stated priorities. Control the flow of projects and labor utilization in the business unit to maximize productivity and minimize cost while achieving safety, quality, and backlog In conjunction with Business Operations Manager, review and plan for daily, weekly, and quarterly labor to meet or exceed Business Unit productivity targets. In conjunction with Business Operations Manager, analyze variable labor costs, including working with management to determine required staffing levels, and support labor reallocation as required. Administer policies and procedures as required. Success Metrics and Competencies Demonstrated ability to lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, diverse team. Data analysis and interpretation skills. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in related field or commensurate, relevant work experience required. Proven experience operating a multi-site organization. Fifteen or more (15+) years in the land development / AEC industry, of which at least five years successfully leading multidisciplinary teams and/or managing a branch office. Intermediate to advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Physical Demands and Working Environment Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic. Mobility around an office environment. Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business. Occasional lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds. Occasional pushing or pulling up to 25 pounds.
