The Buyer is accountable for all transactions within their assigned area **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION** UW Medicine Supply Chain’s objective is to ensure our patient care experience is enhanced by delivering a robust foundation of services, operational and technical support, and the sharing of comprehensive, relevant, and highly specialized supply chain management expertise. This includes a primary focus on customer service, as well as maintaining appropriate levels of general, medical, and surgical supplies throughout each facility. **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** + Locates, contacts, and interviews via telephone and by personal visits potential vendors. + Monitors and ensures compliance with specifications and contract terms and after-sale support and follow-up + Maintains appropriate bid lists for those vendors providing acceptable service levels + Assists as directed by the Manager of Acquisitions with soliciting vendor response by approved, procedural methods for specific competitive acquisitions, selecting the appropriate method + Analyzes bids for a divisional assignment purchase contracts products; recapping vendor responses when required in a clear, easy-to-understand fashion; audits responses according to established procedures; and selects and presents appropriate parties of the selection in a positive, concise fashion + Coordinates with clients their requirements; participating in the drafting of technical specifications; recommending technical assistance; and proposes standardization of goods when appropriate + Committs orders to vendors; prepares electronic purchase orders that are procedurally and grammatically correct; assuring contract and/or specification compliance; and devises evaluation tools to assist clients in selection of alternate products + Advises clients of existing or potential policies and/or procedures that may affect their requisitions + Monitors purchase orders and communicates status to relevant departments on a consistent basis. + Makes regularly assigned visitations or participates as required in departmental presentations aimed at increasing communication/education goals. + Surveys and analyzes procedures and procurement processes; prepares findings, reports and recommends improvements to management. + Participates in routine departmental operations in a timely and productive manner, i.e., management reports, public bid openings, and contract maintenance **REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS** One year of experience as a professional-level buyer AND either an Associate of Arts Degree in purchasing management or a Bachelor's Degree; OR an equivalent combination of work experience and college-level training **ABOUT HARBORVIEW MEDICAL CENTER** As the region's only Level I Trauma and verified burn center, Harborview Medical Center is a comprehensive healthcare facility owned by King County and operated by UW Medicine.
