Position Summary: As part of the procurement function, the Buyer (serving as a professional negotiator) is responsible for strategically reducing acquisition costs within defined categories of hospital spend and for serving as a primary procurement point of contact to all hospital system departments/staff as assigned. The Buyer is responsible for reducing costs through effective supplier negotiations, cost modeling and the ability to sell cost reduction proposals to stakeholders. The Buyer will also serve in a critical staff role to be responsible for coordinating all hospital requisitions and activating/transmitting all subsequent purchase orders in support of the timely buying needs of the organization as well as complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
A minimum of (5) five years specific procurement and cost reduction experience in a large scale enterprise required. Healthcare industry preferred.Specific experience with product sourcing, supplier capabilities and internal customer servicing expectations required.Education:
An Associates Degree in Business Administration or closely related field required. Bachelor degree preferred. May substitute a high school diploma and an additional (2) years of Healthcare specific procurement experience for the Associates Degree (total of 7 years specific procurement experience of which 2 years are Healthcare related).Certification/Registrations:
Professional certification through the Institute of Supply Management (ISM) or Association for Healthcare Resource and Materials Management (AHRMM) is required within one year of hire date or transfer to the position.Special Skills:
Strong negotiating skills accompanied with the ability to strategically reduce total landed costs required.Ability to navigate and manage multiple information systems including core materials management information systems, electronic data exchange systems and other databases required, particularly Excel.Other:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications through testing (ie: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Explorer) required.Demonstrated strong work ethic required.Personal transportation and willingness to travel among multiple inpatient/outpatient sites spanning the region required.Physical Requirements: Light-Medium Physical Agility test rating (PAT). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity of condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers and frequently to talk and hear. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and will be measured by post offer PAT. .
