Job Description

  

Teledyne Controls is hiring a Buyer in El Segundo. The Buyer will be responsible for obtaining materials for Teledyne Controls from suppliers at the lowest cost, while ensuring quality, supplier reliability, and timely delivery to meet company objectives. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing complex commodities for build-to-print assemblies. This includes sourcing, negotiating, coordinating, and overseeing all aspects of the procurement process.

Responsibilities

Plan, source, negotiate and purchase complex commodities for build-to-print assemblies, such as consignment and turnkey circuit cards assemblies, and provide oversight of the commodities’ associated processes.

Works closely with internal customers, to obtain specifications necessary to accomplish specific projects related to program needs.

Purchases materials, equipment supplies and services of a specialized or complex nature in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures.

Create request for quotes, gathers quotations, examines bids, negotiates to secure favorable terms meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality and delivery date and places orders timely.

Proactive in identifying and solving material issues to eliminate shortages and minimize production delays.  Expedites orders and keeps internal customers informed when problems occur.

Responsibility shall include administrating and maintaining of past purchase orders placed by others that fall within the assigned commodities.

Provides pricing and lead times and projected ship dates to internal customers, responsible for the maintenance of planning data fields such as lead time, min max quantity, minimum order, order multiple, and update supplier contact information.

Takes responsibility for resolving receiving, and accounts payable issues.

Interprets and communicates company procedures and requirements to internal departments and suppliers as a specialist in the assigned material commodities; assists departments in initiating requisitions and orders.

Interfaces with other departments timely to solve and support problem resolution to minimize impact to the production schedule.  The use of initiative, discretion and independent judgment within established guidelines is required.   Assists departments in the evaluation of goods and services as needed; ensures that customers' expectations and requirements are met.

Supplier relations: Manages the supply base by maintaining supplier performance in the areas of quality, delivery, and pricing to support the desired business target levels.

Evaluate supplier’s performance and reliability; identifies potential suppliers, schedules the necessary site visitations, and develops new supply sources where existing suppliers are inadequate.

Responsible for coordinating and leading discussions relating to defective or non-conforming products and services with QA and suppliers to obtain root cause and corrective action to prevent recurrence.

Performs supplier onsite visits, as business needs require. 

Ensure that business is conducted with integrity and in compliance with all Teledyne processes and procedures.

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Minimum of 6 years of experience, which may include a mix of relevant work experience and/or academic coursework, with experience in Procurement within a mid-to-large company, preferably in the aerospace or defense industry. 

Ability to perform presentations effectively presenting information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Ability to read and understand specifications, engineering drawings, and parts lists.

Strong negotiation skill

Intermediate Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Knowledge and experience in electronic components

Basic knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100

Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of Government Contracting and Small Business Regulations: Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), small business set-aside programs, and other relevant policies governing small business participation in government contracts.

Ability to provides training and guidance to other team members on assigned commodities.

APICS CPIM and or ISM Certified

Greenbelt Lean Manufacturing 6 Sigma certificate or equivalent training

Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/ Kaizen

Due to the type of work at the facility and certain access restrictions, successful applicants must be a "US Person" (US Citizens, US Nationals, lawful permanent residents, asylees or refugees).

  

Salary Range:

$74,800.00-$99,880.000

Pay Transparency

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.
