Marietta Manufacturing is part of Laboratory Equipment at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our products serve pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and university sectors for research and disease prevention.

Discover Impactful Work:

The Buyer III is a key member of the Marietta site procurement team in our Laboratory Equipment Division (LED). They will be our technical resource for the site procurement team & our strategic vision. They will drive engineering support on new product initiatives and existing product lines through cost savings/avoidance initiatives, revenue generation initiatives, risk mitigation efforts, resolve quality issues, and supplier consolidation.

A day in the Life:

Assist in identification & evaluation of select suppliers to ensure the procurement of high-quality materials and components at the best possible cost.Collaborate with suppliers to find opportunities for cost savings, quality improvements, and innovation in materials and processes.Support New Product Development initiatives.Coordinate and direct investigations into new processes, materials, and technologies, providing training for operations as needed. Manage the validation process.Resolve production shortage issues through solution-based approach on helping procurement with finding suitable alternates & working with local engineering on quick implementation.Serve as procurement liaison to lead engineering efforts through the engineering change process. This includes learning & implementing the Marietta change process & working with local functions (quality/POE/ME/etc.) for timely change support.Capital Projects: Prepare sourcing-led capital appropriation requests and manage the administration of approved project capital in conjunction with sourcing manager.Creative thinking. i.e. bringing fact-based solutions to complicated scenarios.

Keys to Success:

Education

Minimum of Bachelor's or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering.

Experience

BS or equivalent experience required; preferred experience of 1-2+ years in product design, product development, sourcing and/or manufacturing experience.Preferred experience in working with vendors & contract manufacturers.Preferred experience with change support in highly regulated industry.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong project management skills.Value engineering, process development, should-cost modeling experience, DFA/DFM/DFx experience.Relevant experience managing electromechanical suppliers and contract manufacturers.Proficiency in CAD Design software, SolidWorks, Pro/E, or equivalent.Understanding of phase gate development processes and methodologies across multiple fields and subject matters is preferred.Medical devices experience preferred i.e. experience with regulatory bodies (NSF/UL/ISO/etc.).
