About the Opportunity 

We provide the front end design and engineering capability across the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) portfolio. Being part of the PPP Team offers a unique opportunity to drive change and innovation in engineering, safety and delivery solutions in one of the most complex industrial sites in the UK if not the world. We are looking for people who are passionate about developing themselves and in meeting new challenges.

The Project

The Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) Future State Programme will focus on providing additional modern standard, resilient storage capacity to store 100 Year Packages until the final disposition solution is implemented. SNM Future Storage is currently in the ‘Feasibility’ stage of the project lifecycle. Several possible variations of credible new build stores were considered during the ‘Programme Study.

The scope of this current phase of study is to consider a wider range of new build scenarios. Credible new build options need to be identified, underpinned, and down selected to then progress through to the Appraise and Select phase with submission of Strategic Outline Case. 

Responsibilities will include

Production of calculation packages, production of CS&A documents and input into multi-discipline documents (Reports, calculations, BoD, PFS etc.) Structural substantiation of building elements (change of loading / area usage) e.g concrete / steel structures / pipebridges etc. Development of optimised, balanced and practical design solutions balancing aspects of safety and environmental performance, operational effectiveness and constructability Ensure that the design meets all functional, safety and environmental requirements and is integrated with other design disciplines and preserves the design intent Stakeholder liaison / design team engagement / meeting attendance. Production of CDM Risk Assessments Engage with the CS&A Responsible Engineer and collaborate with Safety and other engineering disciplines to meet project objectives and milestones. *

Production of CDM Risk Assessments Engage with the CS&A Responsible Engineer and collaborate with Safety and other engineering disciplines to meet project objectives and milestones. * Chartered Engineer with the IStructE or ICE (preferred)  Experience in the static and seismic design of concrete (to ACI 318), steel and masonry structures.  Relevant site experience  Proficient in the use of Tedds and Staad Pro (advantage) Substantial relevant experience, typically at least 4 years of experience in relevant project design work General all round civil and structural design experience required, with experience working on alterations and modifications to existing structures, and nuclear new build projects. Experience of working within a highly regulated industry. Evidence of design capability working as part of a multi-discipline team.
