Cable Technician - NISSC II

Selected by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s Strategic Warning and Surveillance Systems Division for Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainment (OM&S) of critical mission systems for the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) Cheyenne Mountain Complex (NCMC), we support the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II).

 

Since 2020, through the (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II), has provided\:

·       Operations, maintenance, and Sustainment of current and legacy systems for the surveillance and cataloging of manmade objects in space.

·       Mitigation of orbital conflicts.

·       Threat warnings and control from airborne, land-based, and space-based systems for threat activities.

·       Operations and maintenance of classified communications.

·       Software development and integration.

 

NISSC II supports the classified communications and processing for Command and Control (C2) capability and legacy space C2 systems located at\:

·       Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station (CMSFS), Colorado

·       Peterson Space Force Base (PSFB), Colorado

·       Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska

·       Vandenberg Space Force Base, California

·       Numerous sensor and forward operator sites around the world

 

Description of Duties\:

The Cable Technician supports North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on the Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) and Space Support Contract II (NISSC II). The candidate will\:

·       Install and maintain underground, buried, copper core, and fiber-optic cables supporting systems for command and control, communications, and computers.

·       Plan, maintain, and install all cable and communication conveyance systems.

·       Process formal customer requests and develop technical solutions.

·       Maintains cable installation records and schematics using a database.

·       Performs configuration control for all communications cables and conveyances for CMSFS.

·       Focal point for any/all questions concerning authorized access to the CMAFS bellows; maintains access list, log all information on the master station log, alarm/de-alarm, and maintain combinations.

·       Resolve project installation and maintenance troubles by using project sketches, drawings, project directives, diagrams, and Technical Orders.

·       Follow project installation and maintenance actions and repair procedures.

·       Conduct system tests to assess cable capabilities and serviceability.

·       Coordinate operations with using activities.

·       Install, inspect, and evaluate cable installation, and maintenance actions.

·       Evaluate inspection reports and analyze survey and test results.

·       Process Civil Engineer work clearance requests; locate mark and record underground communication cables.

·       Operate and maintain special tools, test equipment, auxiliary equipment, and special vehicles.

·       Troubleshoot, repair, and replace fiber optic, transceivers, and modems.

·       Knowledge/certification of mechanical and fusion fiber optic splices/connectors.

·       Clearance Requirements\: Active Secret Clearance

·       Educational Requirements\:  H.S. Diploma or GED

·       2 years of directly related experience.

·       4 years of general work history

·       Experience planning, maintaining, and installing all cable and communication conveyance systems.

 

Desired Requirements\:

·       Experience working with an Air/Space Force customer in a high-paced environment.

·       Experience with Air/Space Force processes/tools for tracking projects, maintenance schedules, and updating cable equipment and facing records.

·       A good working knowledge of EIA 568A/B cabling standards.

 

 

This position is expected to pay $67,000 - $77,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
