Job Description

As a member of the Skyworks CAD team, you will perform critical tasks supporting physical design methodology. You will quickly become acquainted with RTL2GDS flows and provide solutions for implementing them using open-source tools. Collaborating with multiple CAD team members, you will identify creative solutions to match the quality of results produced by commercial tools. This is a fantastic opportunity to help our design teams succeed in their design process and save future development costs for simple designs.

Essential Functions:

Convert existing standard physical design flows to use open-source tools. These flows include logic synthesis, formal verification, place and route, parasitic extraction, static timing analysis/sign-off, gate power analysis/sign-off, and rail analysis/sign-off. Create documentation for these flows.

Key Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering (EE) / Computer Engineering (CE).

Preferred Skills:

Understanding of VLSI design fundamentals, including transistor theory and CMOS fabrication processes. Basic knowledge of digital design and test engineering fundamentals. Understanding of ASIC and System-on-Chip methodology, tools, and flows. Experience or knowledge in physical design, including floorplanning, power grid routing and analysis, clock tree synthesis, placement and routing, timing and power optimizations, design for manufacturing optimization, parasitic extraction, timing analysis, power and rail analysis, signal integrity analysis, formal and physical verification. Knowledge of scripting languages (Shell, Perl/Python, Tcl). Experience with installing and using OpenLane tools, including Yosys, OpenROAD, OpenSTA, etc. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The typical pay range for an Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $26.00 - $47.50 per hour and for a Non-Engineering intern across the U.S. is currently USD $22.50 - $42.00 per hour. Starting pay will depend on level of education, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
