Calibration Engineer

We have been operating in Ireland since 1946. **Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill Cavan** Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada. Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition. The role of Calibration Engineer will involve the following: **Job Purpose:** + Oversee the plant's calibration program, coordinating site calibrations with internal stakeholders and contractors to ensure all plant metrics are met. + Develop and implement a continuous improvement and "bad actor" program for site instruments. + Provide guidance and support to site engineers for plant instrument installation activities. + Collaborate with the CAPA and Validation Manager to ensure the Engineering department complies with quality standards. **Key Responsibilities:** + Establish effective communication with all departments, including Manufacturing, QA, Materials, Human Resources, and Finance. + Administer policies and procedures as they apply to employees. + Plan and schedule work according to plant demand and available manpower. + Ensure compliance with Abbott International Global Standards, GMP, and environmental requirements. + Promote positive employee relations. + Ensure all Abbott employees and contractors under your direction are familiar with all safety rules and regulations. + Strive to reduce product costs by improving efficiencies. + Foster a culture of continuous improvement through effective RCA and FPS. + Ensure all employees follow correct procedures for hot work, working at height, and confined space entry, ensuring work permits comply with SOPs. **Education & Experience:** + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering, Food Science, Dairy Science, or related engineering qualifications. + Minimum of 3years experience working in a similar role or withing a regulated manufacturing environment. + Project management skills or experience managing technical personnel is preferred. **Key Skills:** + Knowledge of validation and CAPA policies or FDA regulations related to instrument calibration is advantageous. + Understanding of food engineering, thermal heat processing, and fluid flow, with knowledge of food safety critical control points. + Essential working knowledge of electrical instruments and calibration requirements.
