Business Unit/Role-Specific InfoWe are looking for Software Engineering Interns to participate in paid orientation and prep sessions (up to 4 hours) and a 3-week virtual, full-time (40 hours per week), paid micro-internship program that will take place from April 30 – May 30, 2025. The Sprinternship Internship Program will provide you with real, on-the-job work experience whilst allowing you to choose from several potential roles within our scrum teams; giving you the skills and experience to help you accelerate in your studies and future career. The program is geared primarily towards Sophomores or similarly qualified individuals currently attending a college or university as a part-time or full-time student.

As an American Express Software Engineer Sprintern, you will work on building global scale software with a host of tools and frameworks! Internship project areas range from machine learning, using big data, native mobile applications, backend services, full stack web applications, or UX/UI focused development. Candidates will work across our software products, like Spring Cloud and Webflux for reactive Java services, or Node.js driving React web applications and various microservice architectures.
What type of work can you expect?Identify exciting opportunities for adopting new technologies to tackle existing needs and predict future challenges.
Develop applications as part of a scrum team.
Learn technical skills, write code, conduct code reviews, and write unit tests.
Partner with Product Managers, Senior Engineers, and Application Architects on your team to conceptualize, build new products and prioritize features.
Take part in social activities, community service events and projects with other Interns.
Skills/ExperienceExperience in developing products or projects either in an academic, professional, or personal setting.
Some entry level software development experience, design, or creative experience.
Solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
Excellent written and verbal communications with the ability to articulate work to team members and collaborators.
Familiarity in any of the following languages, Java, JavaScript, C++, C#, Python, Go, or Rust.
Requirements/QualificationsMajoring/minoring or planning to major/minor in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Be living in the United States while participating in the Sprinternship to be legally paid.
Have a proven track record to perform technical work in Computer Science and/ or Network Engineering or related field.
Program CommitmentsTo participate in the 2025 American Express Sprinternship, candidates MUST agree to the following commitments:
Orientation & Prep: April 30 – May 8 (up to 4 hours) Amex Orientation: April 30, 2025 Orientation & Preparing for the Workplace Workshop: May 1, 5-6:30pm MT Navigating the Workplace & Project Management Workshop: May 8, 5-6:30pm MT Internship: May 12 – May 30 (up to 120 hours) Work full-time, 40 hours/week for three weeks from Wednesday, May 12, 2025 - Friday, May 30, 2025, in a virtual format. Final Workshop: May 30 (up to 1.5 hours) Retrospective workshop: May 30, 5-6:30pm MTAt the completion of the May 2025 American Express Sprinternship, candidates will have the opportunity to apply for the May 2026 10-week American Express Internship Program, which will run in a HYBRID format and will require in-person attendance at American Express' office in PHOENIX, AZ.
Salary Range: $24.05 to $63.00 hourly
